DazedN Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Looking for a great room in Rome Friday 12/29 to Jan 2. My bids yesterday were rejected at fairly high prices (tried $180, $240, and $300), but I'm new to bidding on priceline. (I have read the FAQs and do understand the free rebid strategies). Can anyone help with advice on how to bid again?
pirate Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Hi Dazed,The only reported 5* hotel in Rome is the Intercontinental. A quick check on their website shows
thereuare Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 The opaque providers typically receive excess inventory, or inventory the hotels don't expect to sell on their own. For a high demand, holiday date, such as yours above, there is little supply given to the opaque providers in areas in a city such as Rome.I'd also try EasyClickTravel, where i found lots of 4* rated hotels for much less than you've bid above. I'd also try to stick with rates listed as "available" rather than "on request" as i think the chances of getting an 'on request' rate honored for these dates is very low. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
WillTravel Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 I'd also try Booking.com and LateRooms.com . And do so quickly, because you are already very late for booking Rome for New Year's.
tenerifesharon Posted December 13, 2006 Report Posted December 13, 2006 Also try www.wotif.com for last minute reservations.
DazedN Posted December 14, 2006 Author Report Posted December 14, 2006 Excuse the ignorance from a Newbie, but I thought priceline was listing two other hotels in Rome Central at five stars: Splendide Royal, and Boscolo Exedra Hotel. Is the Intercontinental rated differently? Thanks for the help above. I really appreciate the great advice.
WillTravel Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 Priceline has those hotels in its transparent hotel booking product, but so far no one has ever reported winning them in a Priceline bid. It's not impossible at all, but just no one has done so yet. There could be some other 5* hotel or hotels that Priceline might provide too - you just have to be willing to accept anything in the central Rome zone as Priceline defines it.
WillTravel Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 I would look at Laterooms.com and act fast. I see at least two hotels that aren't 5*, but should suit your purposes.
rapazfreiburg Posted December 14, 2006 Report Posted December 14, 2006 You're just too late and I also recommend you to act fast and try to secure a room elsewhere as long as there is still some availability.
