JonathanK
Hey everybody. I'm planning a trip with a close friend of mine for her birthday. We're going to Vegas on May 30, and coming back June 1. I know being Friday and Saturday, it'll normally cost more. I'm not sure about that time, I know it's after Memorial Day, will the hotels still have higher than normal prices? My main question is if I should go ahead and bid now for a 5* or waiting till it's closer to the date of travel. Right now I've seen what I think is the Aria on Priceline Express for $234. I have a 15% off coupon. Which makes it about $199 a night. Can anybody tell me if they think that's decent for those days, or if I should go with bidding for less. I'd prefer something in the $150 a night range. But because it's her birthday and I want to go all out, I'm willing to go up. Thank you. As usual, I've clicked the links and will keep clicking them for my searches! Thank you. I forgot to mention, I'm pretty much okay with any of the 5* hotels. In terms of preference. If this order is wrong, or anyone have suggestions let me know! Thank you again 1) VDara 2) Aria3) Bellagio4) Cosmopolitan5) Mandarin Oriental Link to comment

yellowdog
We have some additional question for you in the Disneyland thread I'm sorry to say that we don't have an answer to to this. No one can say if the rates will go up/down between now and your stay. Weekends are more expensive. And rates are a bit higher than normal, I don't know if some event is taking place. But I don't think your desired budget $150 will fly for a 5* with current rates. Can you go 4* for this stay? Let us know and we'll go from there. Thanx for using boards PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links Yellowdog. Link to comment
JonathanK
That's kind of my concern. If anybody can weigh in on whether or not they know some event is taking place 5/30-6/1 that'd be great. I tried googling, and didn't find much, but I know that doesn't mean there isn't any events taking place. As for 4* I would accept it if I could be guaranteed NYNY, Paris, or Planet Hollywood. That's the lone reason why I haven't considered it. I don't want the Tropicana or Luxor. Link to comment
JonathanK
Just wanted to post an update. I bid up to $175 on Priceline using almost all of my re-bid zones. I have 1 remaining. Been denied so far. I really don't like the idea of spending more, but understand the 5*'s are more costly. Link to comment
Romelle
Maybe you could make cancelable back-up reservations with which you are reasonably happy (maybe a 4* at a great rate?), then keep bidding those 5*s within your comfort level. Up until the very last minute. Las Vegas rates can be very volatile. You might catch a dip. Have you looked at the Las Vegas Checker in the Tool Box up above? And there are links to other hotel rates above on the Support Page and on Priceline Maps. But if you go the back-up route, triple check the fine print on the cancelation clause! JonathanK
Thank you! I actually am considering that now. Booking direct with Paris it's about $140 a night. I know I can get a 4* for less using Hot.wire or Price.line, but the guarantee of Paris outweighs the money saved there. I'm tempted to try and wait till the last minute and just keep hoping prices drop. I looked at the convention schedule, and only one "decently" sized convention at 37,000 people are going to be there. So I can't imagine that will impact the prices much. Link to comment
thereuare
There is a 37K person convention taking place over your dates and that is likely the reason for the higher than usual rates you're seeing. While Vegas can certainly handle a convention of this magnitude, it would have an effect on hotel rates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. JonathanK
I booked the Paris as a backup. 4* for $180 a night after all the taxes and resort fees. That's probably what I would have wanted to pay for a 5*. Hoping the prices will come down. Link to comment

JonathanK
I've still been constantly checking Hot.wire and Priceline, using your links of course. I don't have my heart in it for Paris. Anybody have any comments on Paris and whether or not they liked it there? I've seen a decent price on Hotwire for what I think is Elara. After calculating in resort fees for Paris, they may be fairly similarly priced. If anybody has any kind of hotel suggestions, please chime in. yellowdog
Best guess would be Elara. I have never stayed at Paris so I can't help you with that. thereuare
I have friends who have stayed at Paris and it's nice, they enjoyed their stay... assuming the rate is refundable, why not book that to ensure that price, then you know the 'price to beat' and continue to check PRICELINE / HOTWIRE in the weeks ahead. Rates change often, and quickly in Vegas... this gives you a sure price if rates increase from here, but also flexibility in case they should come down. JonathanK
Thank you very much. I did indeed book the Paris at the discounted rate as my backup, in case I can't find anything better. I'm really hoping for Vdara, Bellagio, Aria, or Cosmopolitan. Those are the ideals at this point. Maybe Mirage, but it's a tad too far north. Link to comment

tehnoir
I'm actually looking for similar hotels over the same dates for my own birthday. I've mostly been looking at Hotwire. I've been seeing what I think is Trump for $127/night and what I think is Vdara for $188/night (before taxes and fees). Not sure if that's any help for you. Also had no idea about the convention, so thanks for that info. Link to comment

JonathanK
I just wanted to say this thread can be closed. We'll officially be staying at Paris. The prices have seemingly gone-up and nothing comes close to the price we're getting there. Thanks everybody for your help! Link to comment
