Memphis_Guy Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I'm a little skeptical, but they have this being offered at $23 per night for a 6 night stay, May 7-13.Amenities include:Complimentary Breakfast, Pool(s), Laundry Facilities (self-service), High-Speed Internet AccessAlso, "70% of Hotwire reviews recommend; 50+ total reviews," and they say it has a TripAdvisor rating of 3 out of 5.When I change the dates up so that it's 2 or 3 nights instead of 6, I still get an offer in the $22 to $25 per night range. Can this possibly be anything more than a bed-bug ridden dump? Yet they say 70% recommend. Any thoughts?
Colfax Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I'm guessing this is Days Inn-South Bay or Ramada-SD South. Those have a 3/5 TripAdvisor rating, which isn't great. At $23 you might buy one night, just to see what it is. Then if you like it buy the rest. Please use this HOTWIRE link if you try and let us know what you get.
Memphis_Guy Posted April 16, 2011 Author Report Posted April 16, 2011 I know that with Priceline, if I go one night and like it, I can add an extra night or two when I get there, and the price does not change. Is that true with Hotwire? Or would I risk seeing the price jump?
Colfax Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 Hotwire doesn't have an Add a Night feature. If you decide to puchase one night first, as a test, you should check the other five nights too and make sure the same hotel is being offered for the one night and the five nights. If the icons and TA stats are the same they're probably both the same hotel.Doing a "test buy" costs a little more than buying six nights at once because you'll pay two transaction fees instead of one. That extra $6 or $7 is good insurance though against winning six nights at a "bedbug ridden dump".
thereuare Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 I know that with Priceline, if I go one night and like it, I can add an extra night or two...Actually, you can only add up to as many nites as your original purchase... so if you only purchase one nite, you can't add two nites.Hotwire doesn't have an Add a Night feature. In a recent development (maybe a week ago) they do have an add a nite feature... as well as an "add rooms" feature where you can add an additional room for all or part of your stay... which is good for when traveling with others who may only be staying for a subset of the original dates. It's also important to note that while the offer of these features by PRICELINE and HOTWIRE does not ensure that you'll be able to extend your stay (or get additional rooms) at the same price... PRICELINE / HOTWIRE may not have access to any inventory for the additional nites OR the price may be substantially (and prohibitively) higher then the original purchase. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Colfax Posted April 17, 2011 Report Posted April 17, 2011 In a recent development (maybe a week ago) they do have an add a nite feature... as well as an "add rooms" feature where you can add an additional room for all or part of your stay...That's big news! I can't find anything about it on Hotwire. Is there a thread where a user reports seeing this new Add a Night/Add a Room feature?
