  1. Hi AlSleet! Some personal advice from someone who bids LAX from time to time: I wouldn't go much higer on your bids if I were you. $40 should have been enough to land you a 3* (at the Sheraton or one of the others). My personal guess is that you're bidding too early - the hotels may not have given PL inventory yet... Take care, DeltaPurser :)
  2. A friend of mine got the following... Previous bids for a 3* in all city zones had failed up to $56. He's a newbie and didn't know better than to start a new bid for a 2.5* rather than just lower his star rating and continue his same bid. To make a long story short... 2.5* Holiday Inn Gateway (Cathedral Hill) 1500 Van Ness Av San Francisco Offer price: $56 Nights: 3 Taxes & Fees: $30.50 TOTAL: $198.50 I'm sure he could have gotten something else in "better" zone had he played his cards right. Hotel's website shows a rate of $99 per night for the dates in question. I didn't see it listed on the hotel list, so here's a link to the website: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/h/d/6c/1/en/h.../hd/sfogg?irs=y DeltaPurser :)
  3. As I'm always interested in airport hotels I was happy to see this one come up. Curiosity lead me to try to find the going rate for this date from the hotel website... But nothing shows up on wyndham.com... New York State is not even listed as a state where they have hotels. Do you have the website address for the hotel? DeltaPurser :)
  4. Hi phx! Make sure to write a review when you get back... I'm curious as to what the place is like and would consider making a special trip out there just to check it out... Especially at $30 per night! DeltaPurser :)
  5. Booked this one for friends... Check-In Date: Wednesday, April 21, 2004 Check-Out Date: Friday, April 23, 2004 Hotel Name: Doubletree Oceanfront Hotel - Ft Lauderdale Your Offer Price: $45.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 2 Subtotal: $90.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $17.52 Total Charges: $107.52 Best rate found on Expedia.com... $139/night
  6. I always as for a Zero-Balance Receipt when I check out... Never had a problem. Friends of mine got double billled for the room once, but this was immediately charged back by the hotel after they contacted PL. DeltaPurser :)
  7. Hi 2pi! Don't know if you are familiar with the Homestead Suites hotels or not, but they are all pretty decent... I got the one in Boca for friends that were coming into town a while back, and they liked it. It's in an "office park", right off the Congress Blvd exit off I-95. There's nothing around there really, but if you drive 5-10 minutes you'll find some shopping centers with restaurants, supermarkets, etc... Altantic Blvd. (the "main drag" in Delray Beach) is only 10 minutes away by car, and you'll get to the beach in 15 minutes. I'm sure you'll like it... especially at that price! Welcome to South Florida! DeltaPurser :)
  8. I think PL is in it for the long haul... They benefit more by being honest and upfront not only with us, but with their participating hotels as well. I don't think they are trying to pull one over on either one of us. As far as Ringman's theory about "clearing" the lower rate room first... I'm not sure I follow the logic in that. A car dealer is not going to tell a customer who wants to buy a Mercedes to get a VW, because "maybe someone will come along later and want a Mercedes". I'm sure both PL and the hotel will take the money and wait for the next sucker to come along and bid $100 again. Then again... I could be wrong. (It's been known to happen!) DeltaPurser :)
  9. Used this bonus offer to add to extend a stay here... My previous winning bid was for $32, so naturally I started my bid at $22... rejected. Upped $1 and was accepted at the Hyatt Regency. Official website has the rate at $99. Here's another link for another bonus offer if anyone cares to use it: $50 Bonus Link DeltaPurser
  10. $40 is pretty much the standard for a 4* at the airport in ATL... Usually end up at the Hilton, but I manage to get the Westin from time to time as well. If you get a girl named Bea to help you out during check-in, tell her "You look familiar. Didn't you win some beauty pageant a while ago?" She'll be thrilled to be recognized... and who knows, may give you a really good room! DeltaPurser :)
  11. I'd be afraid to make a claim against them right now... Sounds to me like you pretty much cleaned them out. Congratulations! DeltaPurser :)
  12. Hey, Mr. X - a written review on this bulletin board will probably be appreciated by more people than if you write one to Priceline... Hope you enjoyed the stay. I used to be based up there and spent many a night at the Sunrise Motel waaaaaaaaaaay out in Lindenhurst (I think that was the name of the town...) between trips. I wish I had known about Priceline back then! DeltaPurser
  13. Wow! Sounds like my airline has a lot to learn from this hotel!!! And free WiFi to boot?! Anything else around there? Restaurants? Stores? DeltaPurser :)
  14. I get these all the time, and no matter how my stay was - excellent, good, poor or down right awful - I have NEVER ever heard a word back from them. My guess is it goes in the ol' circular bin... For a while there I thought that maybe they would "thank" me for my assistance with some bonus money or something like that... Well, needless to stay I'm still waiting. It would be great if they used the feedback to re-rate hotels, but somehow I have the feeling it's not even used for that. DeltaPurser :)
  15. Alright... I'm cheap! But it was more of a sport than anything. I swear! DeltaPurser :)
  16. Started bidding on $28 (a rate that showed up a lot about a month ago), adding $1 for each added area (knowing full well no other area in San Francisco has a 3* hotel that will go for less than $50 or so). At $29 I received a counter offer to add $7, but I just kept plugging away until I lucked out at $32... Date: 4/16 (1 night) Going rate on Hyatt.com: $99 DeltaPurser :)
  17. Which was worse, the hotel or the Everglades? :) How much did you end up spending on the hotel? DeltaPurser :)
  18. Wow! Hotwire charged $492 for one night in a 2.5* hotel??????? I guess they were just aking for it in this case then... DeltaPurser :)
  19. I've only had reason to make a claim agains PL's Best Rate Guarantee one time... It took 3 or 4 rounds of e-mails to get them to "find" my better rate. It went so far as to me guiding one of their reps thru the process over the phone! The difference was somewhere in the neighborhood of $14... not much to brag about, but I figured I needed the money more than PL did. Once I filed a claim against Starwood's program... Had booked a room at one of their properties and later that day found a better rate on Expedia.com. Same deal... Took 3-4 rounds of e-mails to get them to finally fork it over. My claim was denied the first couple of times because the room I had booked and the room available on Expedia were not identical... Well, here's the kicker... The one on Expedia was actually BETTER! Seems to me they look for ANY reason to deny your claim... And if you're not persistent, you'll get nothing. But then again, there are some great examples of people who have made out good with Hotwire's DD... Go figure! DeltaPurser :)
  20. Wow!!! That means you're getting 75% off!!!!!!! How sweet is that? DeltaPurser :)
  21. Having lived in Sweden most of my life, I'd say about 40-50% of the cars on the roads in Sweden are Volvos, and another 10-15% are made up of Saabs. It's kinda' funny when you think about it: They are both "luxury" cars here in the States but are driven by "everybody" over there... (90% of cabs in Sweden are Volvos!) Then again, same thing applies to Mercedes in Germany... They are EVERYWHERE!!! Little known fact(?): People who work for Daimler-Chrysler in Stuttgart get 21% off the price of a new car!!! So many of them buy them and resell them a year later and actually end up making money on the deal. Go figure! DeltaPurser :)
  22. This is a GREAT deal!!! Thanks for passing on the info WillTravel. If any of you are thinking about visiting Stockholm this summer, book Scandic Sergel Plaza Hotel... The location can't be beat! You're right by Sergels Torg (the main square) and the main shopping Street (Drottninggatan), and within walking distance to Old Town (Gamla Stan) and the Royal Castle. The rooms are not very large, but modern and comfortable, and the breakfast buffet is out of this world... everything you can imagine. They even serve a Japanese breakfast! We used this hotel for our layovers in Stockholm, and it's a place I'm happy to recommend... especially at this rate! DeltaPurser :)
  23. For the life of me I couldn't figure out where these amounts came from, but now... thanks to you - it makes perfect sense! Good job! Seeing as you seem pretty good with numbers and all... any chance of getting you to do my taxes next year??! DeltaPurser :)
  24. Well, if you stick to those areas you're pretty much "guaranteed" a pool as far as I can tell. Of all the 4* hotels that have shown up in those areas ALL seem to have nice swimming pools. Looks to me like you could land one of the Hilton or Hyatt properties for around $50-60!!! DeltaPurser :)
  25. Can't we all just get along??!!! I think what the other posters are referring to is the fact that this "discussion" wouldn't even be "allowed" on the other board. Don't take it personally Leroy!!! Keep posting your winning bids... I for one look forward to your input. DeltaPurser :)
