I am trying to figure out the hotel i found on Hotwire for travel March 19-22 in San Diego (SeaWorld - Mission Bay - Shelter Island ), listed for $102. It is 4* with the following amenities:

Beachfront

Fitness Center

Pool(s)

Restaurant(s)

Business Center

High-speed Internet Access

None of the properties on the hotwire hotel list match exactly. Help? Ideas? Thanks!!

Welcome to the board, eaf123.

This icon set hasn't come up before. My best guess is Hilton Mission Bay because the icons are a subset of Hilton's reported icons and Hilton is the only reported 4* with a "Beachfront" icon. (The other known 4* have "Oceanfront" or "Beach Access" icons instead.)

But it could also be something other than Hilton, like one of the 3.5* with a Beachfront icon that could have been upgraded but not yet reported here.

If you purchase please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what it turns out to be.

Welcome to the board, katherineandsadie.

Hotels aren't obliged to show icons for every amenity they have, so a hotel can be a Resort with Spa and without displaying Resort and Spa icons. Many hotels that serve continental breakfast choose not to display the Breakfast icon, for example. Occasionally you'll even see a listing with no icons at all.

In the past the Hilton's been reported with the six icons named above plus Laundry, Golf, and Tennis.

Hotwire changes icons frequently and one common variant is they'll display a subset of previously reported icons. Hilton is the only 4* that fits that pattern. But that pattern doesn't apply always and admittedly this could be something other than Hilton.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'm looking at the same area, and had seen that R icon, that's why I asked. :)

Now it makes me nervous to know you can't trust the icons. There's a hotel in Anaheim that I don't want, and it was reported just a few days ago to have the No-Smoking Rooms icon. I'm looking at a hotel in the same area, same stars, but without the NS icon. I hope it's not the hotel I don't want. :)

We're splitting our trip between SD and Anaheim, and should be booking tomorrow. So I'll have some updates to add!
