The current owner of Hotwire is Expedia, not the airlines and travel groups in the document but this would not change things for the user.

Interesting, dc3. Thanks for posting.

The document is from 2003 and no doubt some Hotwire policies have changed since then. I didn't read the whole 11-page document but the new thing I learned--if it's still true--is that the one hotel Hotwire displays for a certain zone and quality level might not be the lowest price hotel available to Hotwire.

Here's what the utell document says on page 4:

With Hotwire, the lowest price wins - with one key exception (below).

In a given search, if you are the lowest priced hotel in your star category, Hotwire shows the customer a price that includes your rate plus Hotwire
