Does it have to be "up to Half off"?

Hi,

This may be very silly question. I have used Priceline several times now, but it just occurred me. Priceline says "save up to half price" for their name your price bidding. But what does it really mean? Just curious....

Your guess is as good as mine. :)

There is plenty of evidence on these forums that you can save more than 50%. Just look around and you will find examples of winning bids of $40 when the rack rate is $159 (i.e. about 75% off).

its a tag line of an advertisement, this acts like a hook to get a prospect interested in the product, it got you to try PRICELINE, didn't it?

I try to make a habit of checking out rack rates for my stays when I book through PRICELINE or HOTWIRE and as g-man mentioned, I have had winning bids that were 75% off and others that were less.

PRICELINE does not set the rates, they act merely as a clearing house for (customer) bids and (hotel) offers, they make a fee from the transaction and from customers bidding over the hotel's minimum offer price.

What are the rack rates?
