vb mom Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 I have a VB tournament to go to in State College the weekend of Sept. 4-5. It also happens to be a PSU Football weekend. Prices are very high. I have a cancelable reservation at the Sleep Inn for a price far too much. I haven't started bidding on Priceline, but from doing a little research on this board, there seem to be very few Priceline wins for State College. Is there much hope that I can get a win on Priceline for a football weekend?
thereuare Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 I think there's actually a fair number of wins for this area... considering it's location and not a tourist destination, over one page of wins for this zone i think is pretty good.In regards to your question, it will be though to get a win for football weekend. If you are able to get a hotel, i wouldn't expect too much of a discount. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Let us know any attempts you make and what you ultimately end up doing for this stay. vb mom Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 Thanks for the info. I will post what we end up doing. We do currently have the reservation at the Sleep Inn, which was the cheapest I could find, but is far higher than we ever pay for hotel rooms. I will see what happens as we get closer. Since there are some things going on in our life that could cause a change in plans, I don't want to bid just yet. I will use your link if I bid on PRICELINE.
dahammer Posted August 19, 2009 Report Posted August 19, 2009 unfortunately for you, the hotels in State College will sell out during home games and most will require a two night stay, even when the Nittany Lions face that powerhouse, University of Akron. :) In the past, hotels have sold out as soon as the schedule is announced and some fans have standing reservations with hotels year over year. I was looking for tickets to a game last year and several sellers offered a package of tickets and hotel accomodations at outrageous prices.I would check out the Holiday Inn in Milesburg or several hotels in the Mill Hall or Lock Haven as their rates are more reasonable. Please use the Support/Travel Links on the board if you proceed.
vb mom Posted August 19, 2009 Author Report Posted August 19, 2009 THanks for the suggestion. I did check out the Holiday Inn through your link. Actually I got a much lower price (but still high to me) at the Sleep Inn. I will likely bid on PRICELINE through your link as we get closer and are sure we will make the trip. I will post what happens.
AaronJB Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Thanks for the follow-up and using the site's PRICELINE link. Let us know what occurs and/or if you have any further questions.
vb mom Posted September 3, 2009 Author Report Posted September 3, 2009 We decided to spend only one night in State College and head to some relatives for the second night who live 2 hours away. That meant we had to cancel our Sleep Inn reservation ($166 a night), because they only would accept two night reservations. The Penn Stater Conference Center is accepting one night reservations for football weekends, so we went with them at $219. WHen I saw that Hotwire was $189 for a two star, I figured I would just go with the Penn Stater. The 3* hotels that win on PRICELINE were showing no availability so I didn't bother. At least I got a bargain for the remainder of our stay in NJ...got a 1 1/2 year old Courtyard Marriot for $50. :)
