Tumpster
Hey there, I'm checking HOTWIRE and I see a 2 star going in Escondido for $49 a night. I was looking around PRICELINE and dont know where would be the cheapest spot of San Diego and the surrounding areas for a cheap hotel room. My friend and I don't need anything fancy, we're there for baseball and the city, not the room. Any ideas? Thank you!Dates of stay are July 31st-August 3rd. Link to comment

thereuare
If price is really the most important criteria, why not select all acceptable zones and bid them strategically and let the one with the lowest price accept your bid??Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.PS- it wasn't clear from your Hotwire Chicagop thread which zone and Hyatt you received... can you post another reply there clarifying. Thanks. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
Tumpster
I've bid a 2* at 40 a night across all zones to no success. How can I bid strategically? Link to comment

Tumpster
My max bid has been for $41 a night at a 2* anywhere in the san diego area and I've done it for back to back days now. Link to comment
thereuare
So since you're within $1 of your maximum bid, what is your back-up plan if you continue to be unsuccessful? Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. GM Mike
Also consider that you may very well be bidding too early for the best deals. There's no way to know that but you do have plenty of time. That's why it's important to know what your maximum bid and backup plan are.Keep in mind that most of the hotels downtown charge $15-20 or more per night for parking. That should be figured into your bidding pattern. (Though if you are driving to a baseball game, you'll probably pay for parking anyway.)Total cost is what's most important. Link to comment
Tumpster
You raise a good point and if so, when is a good time to grab some deals? Link to comment
Colfax
Do you really want to bid 2* in every San Diego zone? Oceanside and Escondido are 30-40 miles from Petco, and San Ysidro's on the Mexico border.Since your trip is still six weeks off I'd keep trying the closer in zones for a few more weeks. You can probably win a more central 2* in the $40's if you're patient. Also, PRICELINE only guarantees double occupancy, which could be a room with one bed. If you need two beds you should stick to Hotwire and search on 3 adults/0 children. Searching 2/0 on HOTWIRE guarantees one bed too. Link to comment
Tumpster
Yeah, I will definatly keep pounding the pavement on securing a 2* somewhere nearby to San Diego. But I have yet to check for 3 adults/0 children so I should try that route as well. Link to comment
Tumpster
So I'm probably actually going to venture in and book a hostel. Theres a VERY nice one for what I'm willing to pay about 4 blocks from Petco Park. Thanks to everyone who helped! Link to comment
Colfax
The hostel sounds like a good solution, Tumpster. You'll appreciate being able to walk to the ballgame. Thanks for closing the thread out. Have fun! Link to comment
