jm_usc Posted May 14, 2009 Report Posted May 14, 2009 I would love to book a 2-night stay in the Monterey area and would prefer a 4* or 3.5* from 5/23-5/25. Since it's both a holiday weekend and right around the corner, I'd like some advice on what the price range for these dates might be. I'd also be okay with staying just one of those nights.Any thoughts appreciated! I'm new to the board and have been watching HOTWIRE, but prices are pretty high so I'm interested in suggestions for bidding on PRICELINE. Thanks!
Colfax Posted May 15, 2009 Report Posted May 15, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, jm_usc.You're bidding for Saturday and Sunday nights of Memorial Day weekend, so don't expect an eyepopping deal. HOTWIRE is a good barometer for what you might have to pay on PRICELINE. Priceline usually beats Hotwire on price.Hotwire has five zones in Monterey area but only one hotel rated 3.5* or higher is available for your dates. It's a 4* in Monterey zone for $161 that looks like the Hyatt Regency. I'd start bidding around $110 and you can probably get it (or another 4*) somewhere in between $110 and $161.If that's in your price range someone can provide a more specific bidding strategy. If you only want to stay one night it looks like Sunday 5/24 is a little cheaper than Saturday 5/23. For Sunday alone the Monterey 4* drops to $149. For Saturday alone no 4* is offered, which means Hyatt has a two-night minimum stay requirement with a Saturday night checkin. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
jm_usc Posted May 15, 2009 Author Report Posted May 15, 2009 Thank you for the advice. I just noticed that on Hotwire, a 4* that looks like the Monterey Plaza dropped to $135 for 5/24. It is not showing up on 5/23 however. I checked Priceline but the 4*s listed are the Marriott and a Hyatt. Am thinking of booking the Monterey Plaza for Sun 5/24 and staying in SF on Sat 5/23.Will report back on any wins and will of course use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links found here!
Colfax Posted May 16, 2009 Report Posted May 16, 2009 The Monterey Plaza hasn't been reported on Hotwire before but I agree that HOTWIRE's new 4* offering for 5/24 looks like a match for the Monterey Plaza.Boutique, Oceanfront, Fitness, Restaurant, Business, Highspeed, Golf, Tennis, SpaPRICELINE usually beats HOTWIRE on price but I don't find the Monterey Plaza rated in Priceline's retail section. They might not participate in Priceline.Still, if you're open to winning any 4* in Monterey (not just the Plaza) I'd try bidding on Priceline, starting around $100. Good luck whatever you ultimately decide.
jm_usc Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 When I checked next, the Monterey Plaza disappeared and it looked like the Hyatt was the only 4* available - for $165. The options became scarce pretty fast and I decided not to book the Hyatt at that price.Thank you so much for your help and advice with this!
