Colfax, I also like Northwest Portland. If you bid in this zone for a 3* or better, do you think there is any risk of getting a location that is not convenient to public transit? I haven't been to Portland for a while.

The Silver Cloud is the only 3* hotel in this zone. In fact, there are only three hotels in Northwest Portland that are rated by Priceline:

3* Silver Cloud Inn Portland

2.5* Holiday Inn Express Portland - NW Downtown

2* La Quinta Portland NW Downtown

There are a couple independent hotels in the Northwest zone that could qualify as 3*---The Park Lane Inn and Northrup Station. As tilepusher notes those two aren't currently rated by Priceline, so they're probably not participating. If either should turn up on Priceline though they're both within a block of public transportation and both very well reviewed.

One other word about the Silver Cloud, regarding noise and views:

The hotel is on Vaughn Street, which divides a nice residential neighborhood with restaurants and cafes from an industrial/warehouse area. The hotel's north facing rooms overlook industrial buildings the south facing rooms look over houses with a partial view of the West Hills. I've stayed in both sides and for quiet and view the south side is preferred.

With Priceline, of course, you're likely to get a room overlooking the street, especially when the hotel is heavily occupied. I request the south side if possible but I've only gotten it once. The desk agent asked me if I was concerned about street noise. I said that I'd stayed there before and knew about the semi trucks driving down Vaughn. She told me that since my last stay the hotel had replaced all the windows on the north side to improve soundproofing.

After two nights at the Silver Cloud I'll say the new windows make a difference. I could still hear street noise but it's much reduced from what I remember a few years ago. With the recession there are a lot fewer trucks out too.
