labbysmom Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 GreetingsI think I might now understand how the wonderful world of discount hotels works! I am trying to get a hotel in Modesto, close to an elderly relative May 3-7/09. I had narrowed it down to Priceline with the Marriott Courtyard and bidding went from $37 to $40 before I really started to study Hotwire's options for me. Now I'm thinking of a 2 1/2* that Hotwire is offering for $49. The options seem to be Holiday Inn Express, Amerisuites and Country Inn and Suites and similar. Since the 2 latters are not in Modesto I think my chances are good to get the Holiday Inn Express. Am I correct in that assumption?Thank you!

Colfax Posted April 22, 2009 Report Posted April 22, 2009 I was too eager and just assumed that Modesto wasn't going to get a reply. We do answer Modesto posts (and all other posts), but it can take more than 4 hours. You'll almost always get a response within 24 hours and usually it's less.I'm not sure if you checked the Hotwire Hotel List before purchasing but the Clarion is listed there with the same icons you posted. The Clarion had the same HOTWIRE icons when it was the Red Lion. You're the first to report purchasing it since the brand change. Some people have trouble locating Modesto in the Hotel List because it's under "S" (for Stockton-Modesto), rather than "M".I've stayed at this hotel (when it was the Red Lion) and I'm not a fan. It sounds like you're familiar with the property too. I won't say "I hope it works out better than you expect". How about "It's only one night".Thanks for the report, labbysmom.

Colfax Posted April 25, 2009 Report Posted April 25, 2009 The last time I stayed there, when it was the Red Lion, I had to drive to Dollar Tree and buy lightbulbs for my room. The hotel's energy saving bulbs were so dim I couldn't read the newspaper. The front desk said those were the only bulbs they stocked.Like thereuare said, hopefully the place has improved under new management.
