htr Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Hi again,On my way to San Francisco, I have to be one night in Bishop, CA, on May 16-17th.These are the options Hotwire shows:2.5-star hotel in BishopComplimentary Breakfast, Pool(s).$692-star hotel in BishopComplimentary Breakfast, Pool(s), High-speed Internet Access.$76What do you think about these hotels? Did anyone have any experience in bishop? I've noticed there are just 2 wins for the city, both for the Mountain View Motel, but with lower rates than these...Any chance any of these could be Holiday Inn Express? Thanks for your help! I'll make sure to use your HOTWIRE link!
Colfax Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Bishop's a small (pop: 3,500) isolated town and in places like that you won't usually find the deep Hotwire and Priceline discounts that are common in larger cities.I'm not personally familiar with Bishop but my Orbitz survey shows eleven hotels in town (mostly motels really), and it looks like Holiday Inn Express, Best Western, and La Quinta are the best. For your stay:HIE $128Best Western $137La Quinta $88ID'ing the Hotwire hotels in Bishop is mostly guesswork. No TripAdvisor stats are given and Bishop hotels don't appear in Hotwire Vacation Packages.I don't think the Hotwire 2.5* is Holiday Inn Express. It's more likely La Quinta. Hotwire usually rates HIE as 3* and La Quintas are mostly 2.5*. The 2* could be any of Ramada, Days Inn, Comfort Inn, or Super 8. But the 2.5* costs less so why bother with 2*?La Quinta offers Weekend Specials on select hotels every weekend. The weekend specials can only be purchased on La Quinta's website and are available for the next three weekends. The hotels offered change from week to week but the Bishop La Quinta is on special more weekends than not, usually at $49. It's available for the next three weekends at that rate. La Quinta won't be posting the specials for your weekend until Monday, April 27...three weeks in advance. If you can hold out that long and LQ becomes available for your date I think that will be the best deal you'll find. And no Hotwire or Priceline transaction fee when you purchase from LQ.La Quinta is a BetterBidding affiliate and if you purchase that hotel it would be appreciated if you used the board's LQ link.If you decide to wait for LQ you should book a cancellable backup now.
htr Posted April 14, 2009 Author Report Posted April 14, 2009 thanks for your help Colfax! The reason I chose Bishop is that i'm driving from Vegas to San Francisco, and as it's a relatively long drive, i wanted to sleep one night in the middle of the trip, and also see a little of the yosemite park the next day. do you suggest anything else than Bishop to stay? Mammoth Lakes would be another option, but rates are higher there. The La Quinta seems to be a great option for Bishop! If i decide for it, i'll make sure to use your link. Thanks!
Colfax Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I've never been to Bishop or Mammoth Lakes, htr, so I have don't have any advice about the area. Hopefully someone reading this knows the area and will have an opinion. If you want more opinions about which city would be better for you, what to see, which are the best hotels, usually you'll get good response to questions like that at TripAdvisor. Search "Bishop" at TA and you'll find the info you're looking for. We're interested to hear where you ultimately stay, whether it's via PL/HW or not.
