dina4 Posted April 11, 2009 Report Posted April 11, 2009 I need to rent a car at Boston Logan and return to JFK in NY -- Thurs morning to Sunday evening.Does it make sense that all the different sites seem to be quoting over $130 dollars PER DAY!!??Yikes. I am dying.Any advice??Some of the bidding sites don't allow for dropping off the car in a different location. Please help.Thank you!!dina
AaronJB Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 Welcome to the site. :)Unfortunately, the bidding sites are round trip. You don't list dates, so it's not possible to do any research to see what else I can find.

dahammer Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 is it possible for you to consider Amtrak? Boston to NY is a white knuckle drive during the best of times.

Colfax Posted April 12, 2009 Report Posted April 12, 2009 There are a few city pairs where Priceline allows you to "Name Your Own Price" for pick up in one city and return in another. San Francisco-San Jose and San Francisco-Oakland are two examples. Unfortunately Boston-JFK isn't one of those city pairs, so you'll need to book something conventionally. With a pickup in Boston and drop in JFK the best rate for a Compact in Priceline Retail is $140/day, from Budget or National. If you rent and return the Compact in Boston the rate's only $30/day!They're effectively charging you $110/day or $330 total as a drop charge. Are your stops along the way such that you could do two separate rentals: two days in Boston at $30 and your travel day at $140?Does it make sense that all the different sites seem to be quoting over $130 dollars PER DAY!!??When you say "all the different sites" are you checking rates on the rental companies own websites (Hertz, Alamo, etc), or just general purpose sites like Orbitz and Expedia? The rental car companies run lots of website based specials that don't appear on Orbitz etc. If you haven't already I'd submit your dates at each car rental company's website individually, and check the "Specials" tab on each one's homepage. Sometimes there's a "No Drop Free" special between certain cities.
