Merlin144 Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 New User here - thanks in advance for your help ID'ing!Stay: March 23-25th3.5* Berkeley-Emeryville, on Hotwire for $69/nightAmenities: Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, High Speed Internet, Golf Nearby, Tennis NearbyAn earlier thread guesses that this is the Doubletree Hotel and Exec. Meeting Center Berkeley Marina. I don't think this is right for these reasons:1. This hotel is rated 2.5* on Priceline2. I didn't think Doubletree Hotels were considered 3.5* level - am I wrong?3. Golf is not nearbyThanks
Merlin144 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Looking for strategy to land at one of two hotels on Priceline for March 23-25.Hotel #1: Hotel Durant, 3*Hotel #2: Doubletree Hotel Berkeley Marina, 2.5*Ideas or strategy I can use? Must avoid Emeryville hotels (Four Points Sheraton, Courtyard Marriott, Hilton Garden Inn) at all costs. :)Thank you!!
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 Welcome to BetterBidding, Merlin144.This hotel hasn't been identified but it appears to be a match for the Berkeley Doubletree. The TripAdvisor stats (3/5, 80+ reviews) match the Doubletree.Hotwire often rates hotels higher than Priceline, so that a 3.5* on Hotwire will be a 2.5* or 3* on Priceline. Priceline rates most Doubletrees 3.5* or 3*. The Berkeley Doubletree is the only Doubletree I know of that Priceline rates 2.5*. I've stayed at the Doubletree on Priceline several times. The hotel does have some small rooms and that's usually what I've been assigned on Priceline. The waterfront location partially compensates for the room size. The Berkeley Doubletree is a full-service hotel, like other Doubletrees. It's possible you can upgrade to a larger room or a room with a bay view for a fee. I've never asked.Hotwire's Golf icon is misleading. Per Hotwire's definition it means a golf course is "within a short drive". They don't define what a short drive is. Same thing is true of the Tennis icon. Those icons don't mean golf or tennis is available on premises, or even within walking distance. It's likely you can win a Berkeley-Emeryville hotel for less than $69 on Priceline. Someone will offer a strategy if you want. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links if you purchase.
Colfax Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 There's no way to avoid Emeryville hotels when bidding on Priceline. In fact an Emeryville hotel is most likely since Emeryville is where most of the Priceline participating hotels are located. You'll need to book a Berkeley hotel conventionally or buy a hotel on Hotwire that you believe to be in Berkeley.A moderator will merge this with your other Berkeley thread.
Merlin144 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Thanks for your help! Great info.
Merlin144 Posted March 18, 2009 Author Report Posted March 18, 2009 Ok, locked this in for March 23-25 at $66/night (used betterbidding.com HOTWIRE link).3.5* Berkeley-Emeryville on HOTWIRE (drumroll...)is indeed the Doubletree Berkeley Marina. So this is a great choice for anyone that wants to stay closer in to Berkeley and avoid Emeryville.(Decided to do this over Priceline because I bid all the way up to $65/night at 3* at Berkeley-Emeryville, and bid was rejected.)
