Hotwire Hotel: San Diego coastal or downtown for family with young kids?

My husband and I are planning a trip to San Diego with our two children (both under age TWO) in May. We want to have a relaxing vacation in a 4* hotel and want to stay away from hotel circle i.e. congested areas but don't want to be too secluded. Can you please advise if bidding PL San Diego Coastal would be a good idea for us or should we stick with SD downtown? We want to have convenient access to the zoo and main SD attractions as well as kid friendly places to eat (we will have a car). I understand coastal is a very large zone, would it be a good kid area? If we choose both, should we click on them at the same time or add one then the other for a free re-bid? Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BetterBidding, bensmom.

I don't think children under two will care what part of San Diego they stay in. My feeling is pick the zone(s) you and your husband would most enjoy and the children will fit in. Either Coastal or Downtown should work (or Coronado if you have a car). There are kid friendly restaurants in all those areas. The Coastal zone is large but I wouldn't call any part of it "remote".

I can't comment on the area, but i will add that priceline only guarantees double occupancy (regardless of age)... i wouldn't worry too much about this aspect given both children are under age 2, but just pointing it out to make sure you're comfortable with it.

Once you decide upon the zone(s) you'd like to bid let us know your maximum bid and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.

My family (traveling with 2 young kids) would like to stay at Paradise Point 5/16-5/20 and we'd like to know how to identify it on hotwire. Could someone please help me identify ammenities or show me dates info that fits the description of Paradise Point so I can book it or keep an eye out for it on those dates?

Also, any suggestions on area/place to stay in San Diego for an additional 2-3 nights that is close to attractions and fun for the kids that is at least 3* We have two kids under 2 and want it to be a good place that has easy access to restaurants, attractions. I was thinking downtown area (probably not gaslamp quarter though huh?)

Thanks for your help!

On HOTWIRE, I've been watching the following hotel listed for the dates 5/16-5/20---Can you help me decide if it's Pradise Point in Mission Bay area?

Here are the amenities listed:

Resort

Oceanfront

Pool

Business Center

Golf Nearby

NEar Beach

Fitness Center

Restaurants

HS Internet

SPA

TRIP ADVISOR Rating: 3.0 out of 5 160+ Reviews (last reviewed FEB 08)

Price on hotwire: $314

I'm not planning on buying it at that price, but I want to know if it's the hotel that I think so when it appears again at a low price in the future I can be confident it's the right one.

If it's not Paradise Point - what other place could it be? Hyatt Regency Mission Bay another 4*? please advise....

Checking your dates in HOTWIRE Vacation Packages your icons are a match for the Hyatt Regency Mission Bay, not Paradise Point.

At last report the Hyatt Regency was rated 3* on Hotwire, and with different icons. Looks like it's been upgraded.

Your stay is four nights, Friday to Tuesday. Many times you can save money if you're willing to bid Fri/Sat together and Sun/Mon separately, as weekend rates can be different from weekday---higher or lower. Is splitting an option for you? If it is do you find different hotels available and/or lower prices when you check HOTWIRE two days at a time?

Thanks for the help. I will continue to look for the price to go down and I think it is Paradise Point. I'll post to this thread again and see if you can help me out. I do believe it is the Hyatt Regency and not Paradise Point (which like you said has been upgraded to a 4*) I will also look into splitting the days like you recommended. Thanks a bunch!

I think you meant to say "I think it is NOT Paradise Point", right?

At Paradise Point's website you can book 2 adults/2 children for $237 or $209.16, AAA rate.

Is that within your budget? If so I suggest booking that while you wait and see if Hotwire rates go down.

Is Paradise Point the only hotel you want? What's your nightly hotel budget for this trip? Knowing your budget someone might be able to suggest some alternatives.
