$44/2.5* rejected. $45/2.5* upgraded to 3*.

I was unhappy about the upgrade because the Doubletree charges $14/night parking and $9.95/day for Internet. Both items are free at the 2.5* hotels in the zone.

But the gate to the underground parking garage was up, the parking attendant's station was unmanned, and I parked both nights without paying.

Doubletree's best price for this Friday/Saturday stay was $99. I bid through SavingsBarn, as usual.

Do you think some of these hotels don't charge their parking fee on the weekends? I stayed at Embassy Suites Irvine during the Memorial Day weekend and used my room key to access their parking garage, but they didn't charge me for it.

I've only stayed at the Doubletree Santa Ana on a weekend, so I don't know if they handle parking differently during the week. They mentioned the $14/night charge when I checked in and asked if I had a car. I said no. If the gate was down when I came back I guess I would have paid then. But the gate stayed up all weekend.

I didn't pay the $9.95/day internet charge either. Local calls were 75 cents for the first hour and I was able to get done what I needed on dialup with two 75 cent calls.

I DID tip the maid though. :)
