Hi guys,

I am totally new to this, looking for a hotel in greater London, double room for 2 nights from Tuesday, 11th December 2007.

Please can someone tell me what I need to do to make a booking?

Thanks,

Steve. :)

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Start here: I've Never Used Priceline or Hotwire

If you'd like to move forward, which zones of London are you willing to accept? What is your minimum star rating? What is your maximum bid?

Let us know the above and/or any questions that you have and we'll take it from there.

Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

Thanks for the advice. I am looking for something anywhere in greater London, as long as it is within zones 1 and 2 of the underground map. Minimum star rating I am looking for is 4 star, maximum bid would be

Priceline hotels in London never include breakfast at the 4* level, and a typical price for buying breakfast at the hotel is 20 to 25 pounds per person. So I think that 70 pounds per night total including breakfast for a 4* London hotel is not realistic.

I've never seen 4 to 7 pounds for breakfast at a London hotel - well, I have at the Comfort Inn Vauxhall, but that's not a 4* hotel.

First example of a 4* hotel that I tried just now was the Waldorf Hilton, which offers breakfast at 19.95 pounds per person, and I know I've seen high fees elsewhere. All I'm saying is that if you want breakfast included at a 4* hotel, it won't happen with Priceline, and the charge for breakfast at a 4* hotel is sure to be more than you could choose to pay for breakfast elsewhere. (If you're saying you could likely purchase a small breakfast like coffee and a scone for 7 pounds or less per person at the hotel, then I agree with that.)

You must be talking about a dorm, not a 4-star in London. Breakfast at the Thistle Marble Arch and the Hilton Metropole was between GBP15 and GBP20. That may be a lot, but it's perfectly normal.

No, I was quoting Holiday Inn and Travelodge.

Looking at Hotwire, rates are pretty high for your dates.

Do you want a 4* even if it's more expensive than your limit, or would you also consider a 3*? (Although it may be that even 3* hotels are too expensive, but you won't know until you try.)

What Priceline zones would you like in London?

I was curious so I just did a quick check.

You are currently looking at around $115 per night plus tax in Kensington (most likely the Hilton Olympia) at the 4* level (without breakfast as mentioned before).

There is nothing cheaper at the 3* level anywhere in London.

Alternatively, you are looking at about $130 per night plus tax in Regents Park (most likely the Marriott Regents Park or the Marriott Maida Vale) at the 4* level.

Happysteven,

I think everyone here is happy to do what they can to help, but you need to do a bit of researching on your own, as well. Why not check out the Hilton website and find out what they charge for breakfast?

Just after entering your bid on Priceline, you will see a total price (following choice of areas and star level). That total will include taxes and service charges. Nothing will be added on to that for the room (probably without breakfast at any hotel in London generally) unless you are picking a city that will have "resort" hotels, in which case you may have to pay a resort fee. Parking fees are usually extra as well - especially in any large city.

tenerifesharon,

Actually I had already looked on the Hilton site for prices but its unlcear on Priceline whether any price was including breakfast. Thanks for your advice, Steve.
