thereuare Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 Welcome to BetterBidding! Are you willing to pay more for a 5* hotel vs. a 3* property or are you looking for the least expensive 3* or better hotel? ytl Posted April 30, 2007 Author Report Posted April 30, 2007 hi all,my first priority would be a central location, and i wouldn't mind to pay a bit more for a 5 star (which i think are better located).how much should i be expecting to pay? i would like to start soon so i can get a few more rounds of bidding.thanks.
WillTravel Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 If you're trying for a central location in Priceline's City Center/Museum Quarter zone, the 5* Hilton Amsterdam is not particularly central, although likely more so than the 4* Moevenpick. There are more central 4* hotels and more central 5* hotels, but those are possibilities. If you use HOTWIRE, you get a bit more control over location. The HOTWIRE prices look pretty reasonable for your dates.
thereuare Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 my first priority would be a central location, and i wouldn't mind to pay a bit more for a 5 star (which i think are better located).Based upon WillTravel's comments, not sure if this is a valid assumption... are you basing your location comments on looking at the previously reported properties, or are you assuming that a higher rated hotel would likely have a better location? rapazfreiburg Posted May 1, 2007 Report Posted May 1, 2007 In reply to WillTravel's comment, I disagree. The 4* Movenpick, which has come up often lately, is in walking distance (10 minutes) and 1 or two tram stops from Central Station. Central Station is in the center of the city. The Hilton is on the other side of the center, but still farther away from anything that should be considered, in my opionn, as "center". For me, the Movenpick is the better choice, and if you're lucky enough, you could also shoot the Marriott or Renaissance.
ytl Posted May 2, 2007 Author Report Posted May 2, 2007 re: willthe HOTWIRE prices go up to 200 USD which is way beyond my budget! i have tried with 95 USD for 4 and 5 stars but failed. counter offer @ 181.there have been some successful case for 100 per night. but i wonder if i can get something lower as i still got some time on hand.
thereuare Posted May 2, 2007 Report Posted May 2, 2007 the HOTWIRE prices go up to 200 USD which is way beyond my budget! Priceline and HOTWIRE are both opaque suppliers, and while priceline is usually a little chepaer than hotwire, it's usually not realistic to expect a winning priceline bid at half of HOTWIRE's price. ytl Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 if that's the case, from your expertise, what is the price range i should aim for?
thereuare Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 I'd guess at least the $135-$150+ range for starters (based upon hotel direct prices... not the HOTWIRE offer). If you let us know your maximum bid we will suggest a strtegy for you to follow. ytl Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 OK, i think my maximum bid would be 130 per night for a four star. and now i will be staying there for 2 nights, 27-28/5.it would be great if you could suggest a strategy!! much thanks
thereuare Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 At the 5* level you have two re-bid zones, none at the 4* level. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* City Center...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $105, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $110, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* City Center...Bid $100.If the above is rejected try again in 24 hours...Select 5* City Center...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* City Center...Bid $105.If the above is rejected try again in 24 hours...Select 5* City Center...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* City Center...Bid $110.At this point, every 24 hours repeat the above 5* strategy, and continue to repeat the 4* strategy by increasing your bid by $5 every 24 hours. Within a week you'll be up to your maximum bid for $130.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and keep us updated as to how it goes. ytl Posted May 3, 2007 Author Report Posted May 3, 2007 thanks for your detailed suggestions.just to double check by free re-bid zones you mean "north" and "city center south" which do no have 5 star hotel offered?
thereuare Posted May 3, 2007 Report Posted May 3, 2007 Yes, that is correct (but always doublecheck before bidding, just to make sure nothing has changed since you last looked) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
