WillTravel Posted February 9, 2004 Report Posted February 9, 2004 I finally went to see "Lost in Translation." I thought it was a great movie, with lots of great scenes of Tokyo. The Park Hyatt Tokyo stars as itself (presuming all of the shots are indeed done within the hotel). So far as I can see, no one has reported winning this hotel on Priceline. What zone would it be in (maybe Shinjuku-ku)? Would it be ranked as a 4* or a 5* hotel? Here's the web site if anyone is interested:http://tokyo.park.hyatt.comNot surprisingly, the hotel is offering a "Lost in Translation" special offer. At any rate, I definitely wanted to move Tokyo up my list of intended travel destinations after seeing that movie.
ShibuyaJon Posted February 16, 2004 Report Posted February 16, 2004 IMO, the Park Hyatt would have to be a 5*. Decent location. As I read PL's map it would be in the Shinjuku zone (just west of Shinjuku-eki). I prefer Shibuya over Shinjuku...but then I am biased...
ShibuyaJon Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 PL does not offer 5* in Shinjuku...could mean they Park Hyatt is not with PL or that it is rated 4*. Frankly it is not that big of a hotel (just the top 15 or so floors) so they may not have to sell much excess inventory via priceline.
WillTravel Posted February 17, 2004 Author Report Posted February 17, 2004 I looked online and apparently discounts (at least by non-Priceline means) are very tough to get.
epicureangirl Posted February 17, 2004 Report Posted February 17, 2004 I just rented this movie on the weekend. Loved it!. However, meeting a movie star, staying in a fabulous hotel, falling in love AND seeing Japan sounds better to me. Might be a little too much to ask. :)
ShibuyaJon Posted February 19, 2004 Report Posted February 19, 2004 My favorite guide books are the "Rough Guides;" they have a great Japan/Tokyo book that is much better than lonely planet. There really is not much discounting in Japan. Some sites, like http://www.tokyoessentials.comwill have links to discounted rooms...but they are still expensive by priceline-cheapo standards. You can also get decent deals via JEHG:http://www.kid97.co.jp/~jeh-group/jeh-group.htmlbut not a lot of lux...I've stayed at the Asia Center of Japan. Cheap but basic and clean, but NOT the Park Hyatt! The Asia Center is just a short hop from Shibuya, Harajuku, and Meiji Shrine.I always suggest people check out the travel library dot com:http://www.travel-library.com/japanbefore going to a country they've never been to.I still have not watched the movie...I am too worried that my wanderlust will get the best of me...I already have 5 trips over the next 7 weeks!edited to add this link: http://tokyo.hotelguide.net/
ShibuyaJon Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 I have finally seen the movie. I really enjoyed it. The sceen with BM playing golf near Fuji-san is sublime!!
