Tbud Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 Hello, I used this site a few times and it is AWESOME. A littel nervous about using Priceline for Europe, but I guess it works the same.I would like to find a 5* (preferably) in the Mayfair/Soho area and would like to request some assistance with a bidding strategy. Thanks so much for your help!Tony
Tbud Posted February 4, 2007 Author Report Posted February 4, 2007 Sorry, I forgot to put some important information: I'd like to keep the price under $200 per night.Thanks.
thereuare Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 Please follow-up your Priceline NYC (2nd request) and your Priceline Las Vegas threads with whatever you ended up doing for each stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above. Tbud Posted February 5, 2007 Author Report Posted February 5, 2007 I'm not sure how to bump this request up for Europe. Sorry I didn't post earlier with the NY Grand Hyatt. It looks like people are maybe entering a new title for their posts when they get a bid - I couldn't figure out how to do that.Las Vegas didn't work out - the city was jammed packed with people that week and I couldn't get anything reasonable.
thereuare Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 It looks like people are maybe entering a new title for their posts when they get a bid - I couldn't figure out how to do that. You add the results to your thread and then we'll edit the topic title accordingly. Please still see both of your prior threads as we sill have some questions which remain. In the meantime we'll have a look at the above London stay...You have eight re-bid zones available when bidding 5* in London. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 5* Mayfair-Soho...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone6...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone7...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 5* Mayfair-Soho and re-bid zone8...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone3...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone4...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone5...Bid $200Any questions feel freel to ask. goblue97 Posted February 5, 2007 Report Posted February 5, 2007 And please, let us know how it goes!!! I have been bidding on the same zone and have had no luck. I even went down to 4* for $175.
Tbud Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 I followed the bidding suggestions all the way through and didn't get an acceptance up to $200.Should I start the process again perhaps using $205 as my starting point and going up to $215, $225, $235, $245, then increment of 5 for the remaining rebid zones.Still doesn't work? I guess I would follow step two following the same bidding startegy?
thereuare Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 The strategy above only went up to $200 because that is what you stated was your maximum bid... if you're changing your maximum bid what is your new nightly budget? At what point (if any) do you say it isn't worth it for a 5* hotel and lower your star quality to 4*? Tbud Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 Thanks for the speedy response. I've finally let it sink in that London is expensive! I'll go up to $325 per night if I have to. What do you think is the best plan of attack? (and I'm keeping notes this time on what I do each step of the way!) :)

Tbud Posted February 10, 2007 Author Report Posted February 10, 2007 Thanks so much. I'll give it a go tomorrow afternoon and will definitely let you know how it goes!
Tbud Posted February 11, 2007 Author Report Posted February 11, 2007 No luck up to 325. I guess I can go up to $375 TOPS. What would the strategy then become? If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to start adding 4*,but I guess I would start from scratch with that. Thoughts?

WillTravel Posted February 12, 2007 Report Posted February 12, 2007 You can get the Sheraton Park Lane for 209 GBP directly from the Starwood site as a cancellable booking for your dates - is it worth bidding $375 + taxes and fees in that case?
Tbud Posted February 13, 2007 Author Report Posted February 13, 2007 Got all the way through the process and no luck yet. I'm going to give it a week or so and try again. If that doesn't work, I'll expand my search parameters a bit. Thanks for the help!
rapazfreiburg Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 Tbud, in my opinion it makes no sense for you to continue bidding up to $375 plus tax (>$440 including tax). The Le Meridien Piccadilly, which is rated 5 star on Priceline, can be booked on www.otel.com (http://www.otel.com/hotelsearch.php?city=London&chinmonth=3&chinday=26&chinyear=2007&nights=4&rooms=1&roomid1=3&adults1=2&children1=0¤cy=USD&hotel=&hotelcategory=&hotelarea=&hotelname=Le%20Meridien%20Hotel%20Piccadilly) at $404 including all taxes and even including breakfast. You could also even try to go for Starwood's best rate guarantee based on the rate at otel.com
Tbud Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Thanks for the help everyone. I got very lucky and happened to come across a new hotel that just opened in London that I can use through my work affiliation. Might be worth checking out for others. It's Club Quarters Trafalgar Square about $280 a night (The Grand at Trafalgar Square).Looking forward to using the site for my next trip!
