billyblaze Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 Bid for one night at $85.00 accepted on first try. Hotel website rate was $199.00 a night. At Check in was handed a card for future visits at $99.00 a night good until 03/31/07. I was told to book directly with the Hotel & not priceline on my next stay. At check out, video checkout indicated priceline paid $84.19 for the room.
dahammer Posted October 30, 2006 Report Posted October 30, 2006 thanks for the post, I wonder if they would hand out the card if you paid the rack rate or if this was just intended for Priceline guests. Do you recall if tax was added to the $84.19 rate on your folio?
billyblaze Posted October 31, 2006 Author Report Posted October 31, 2006 My guess is the $84 charge included the taxes as that appeared to be the amount charged to a Credit card. I also believe they only give the card to priceline customers as the card makes a point of requesting that you book " a new way", directly with the Hotel.
dahammer Posted October 31, 2006 Report Posted October 31, 2006 thanks for the follow up! I think hotel taxes in Nassau County are about 14%, so if PL paid the Harrison $84 for room and tax, then the room rate alone was about $73. So its no wonder that the Harrison Conference Center would prefer that you to book directly with them at the $99 rate...they make more $$. From the Hotel's perspective, why should they give this $99 special rate card to someone paying the $199 rack rate? BTW, the difference between the $84 and your total charges on your itiniary is Priceline's fee. I stayed here about a year ago, its a little difficult to find at night and there are few restaurants around, but it is not too far from the LIRR station.
