BeckyBC03 Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 I am looking for a 4* hotel in NYC for November 21-25. We ARE willing to split the bid if that will save us money. In fact we don't mind at all because we are trying to find a good New York hotel that we love. I don't know which day to split at though to get the best price. Also, we would prefer Upper Midtown area but would probably be willing to try Midtown East. I don't know much about the 4* Midtown East hotels and would really prefer to not get stuck out by the UN. Do you have any advice on what price range to expect during this weekend because it is a holiday. As of right now we have a reservation at the Regency but it is very expensive. I'm not sure how much because my mom is the one booking/paying for this but I just thought I would help her out to try and find a better deal. Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 28, 2006 Report Posted September 28, 2006 All the 4* hotels reported in the MTE zone are centrally located... the 'outlyer' is the Millenium UN which as of the last report is rated 3 stars. Is there a reason you're avoding the MTW zone? We often see lots of hotels won in this area as some of the hotels tend to have lower rates than similarly rated hotels in other zones. For both of the above points, i'd recommend using our Priceline Map for New York as it will give you a visual of just how centrally located the hotels in each zone are. What is your maximum bid? With the above info we will be able to suggest a strategy for you to follow.PS- i'd clear it with your mom first too that she's "ok" with your changing around the plans and/or splitting your stay between two hotels Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
BeckyBC03 Posted September 28, 2006 Author Report Posted September 28, 2006 Thanks for your response. She is definitely OK with the idea of moving around because we are trying to find "our" hotel in NYC because the old Intercontinental on CPS is gone. I am avoiding MTW because she would HATE to be near Times Square. We have stayed in the MTE area at the Waldorf and that location was fine, we just prefer being on CPS. But, like I said we are open to trying new hotels. I'm not sure about the maximum bid but I believe the rate we have booked at the Regency is at least $400/night. I will check with her and find out what her maximum bid will be based on the risk of using Priceline.
BeckyBC03 Posted September 29, 2006 Author Report Posted September 29, 2006 I spoke with my mom and here is the deal. She would like to keep a bid, without taxes, to below $300. We are willing to spend more than that per night but not with the risk of Priceline involved if that makes sense. Please let me know how well you think we can do within that price range. Obviously, the lowest price is always the best but we are willing to go that high. I suppose I should probably check the rates at the majority of the 4 star hotels in those zones to see what kind of rates they are offering too before we go up to $300 on Priceline.
dahammer Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 Becky, the Beekman Tower is available "on request" for your dates of travel through Easy Click Travel Here the rate is $271 plus taxes. The hotel gets good reviews and you will be in a suite and not have to change hotels during your trip. "On Request" means that Easy Click travel has sold out of its allotment of rooms, but will contact you in a few days if it can get a room for you. This is cancellable up to 72 hours before your stay.Good Luck!
thereuare Posted September 29, 2006 Report Posted September 29, 2006 While researching the above, i found something you may want to use to substitute your current back-up reservation, and also may adjust your maximum bid somewhat. The Affinia Dumont is availalbe for your complete stay for $343/nite. It's not in the UM/CPS zone but the 6 train is just a few blocks away and the reviews are excellent.Thoughts? BeckyBC03 Posted October 5, 2006 Author Report Posted October 5, 2006 First I want to say I'm sorry for not responding for days, I had a huge paper due (I'm in law school) and was totally MIA. Thank you for the suggestions but I know my mom and a train ride will not be good. We walk EVERYWHERE when in NYC and not being close to CPS will be a huge problem. We don't do a ton of touristy stuff but rather spend the majority of our time doing serious shopping if you get my drift. She would be happier just keeping the Regency and knowing that our location is convenient to what we are planning on doing even though it is pricey. I guess I should just say that location is more a concern than price but again we are very willing to split the bid because we are looking to find a hotel that we can call our "home" for future visits to NYC. Do you have any suggestions about what rate to start our bids at or which date would be most beneficial for us to split our bid at?
thereuare Posted October 5, 2006 Report Posted October 5, 2006 To confirm... $300 maximum bid, willing to SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, and willing to accept MTE or UM/CPS.If the above is correct, you have two re-bid zones available when bidding 4* in NYC. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $175, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and re-bid zone2...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $200, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and MTE...Bid $210, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $215, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS and MTE re-bid zone2...Bid $220, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $225.I would start with the above for your complete stay, 11/21-11/25, if rejected then try for the following date combinations:11/22-11/2511/21-11/2411/23-11/2511/21-11/23The above may still be a bit low, but i'd test the waters with the above first and for all the date combinations... maybe get lucky and/or get a counter-offer (if you do get a counter-offer stop and post back before proceeding further)Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes.
