aces Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 I was wondering if anyone has compiled any data on how PL counter offers relate to the minimum acceptable bids. That is to say, given a counter offer, what is the minimum bid that I should expect would be accepted. The reason I ask is because I'm hoping to get a room at the Venitian LV for July 6-9. When looking on PL I see the room listed at $209. I started bidding at $99 (okay, I know I was dreaming) and got a counter offer of $188 back from PL. With this counter offer, I'm wondering how close I'll have to get to the $188 before my bid will be acepted. Sorry if this has been covered in another post, I tried searching for it but couldn't find anything. Thanks!
WillTravel Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 When you're that far off, I would guess you'll need to bid 90-95% of that counteroffer, or maybe even more. Sometimes you will get a counteroffer for $22 more (that seems a common number) or some other smaller number. Then the acceptable price can be anywhere from $1-22 more (or whatever the upper number is).
aces Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 Thanks for the reply. One more question, am I correct in assuming that the prices for hotels like the Venitian can vary dramatically from one day to the next? Is it possible that in a couple of weeks a bid for the same dates of $135 or so would be accepted?
thereuare Posted June 12, 2006 Report Posted June 12, 2006 Priceline Counter OffersFor your other questions... why not post the particulars of your stay (date(s), maximum bid, desired star rating) and we'll suggest how to proceed (and we'll also then be able to move this thread to the Nevada section of the board) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
aces Posted June 12, 2006 Author Report Posted June 12, 2006 Thereuare,Thanks for the link. You're always so helpful :) .As for the info you requested (I'm guessing you're going to move the thread since I'm not sure how to do that), here it is...We're going to Las Vegas from July 6-9 and are planning on staying at the Venitian. We haven't booked anything yet (i.e. to hold a room just in case the priceline avenue falls through) but we're pretty sure that we're going to stay there because we like the hotel. The rate on the Venetian website is $209 a night and we're comfortable paying that but as always, better to save a bit of cash up front and dump it at the tables when we get there. So I'm wondering if there's a realistic chance that I could get the room in the $150 range. I put in some bids last night ($99, $109, $119) and they all recieved counterbids of $188. Also, I should mention that realistically, we have a near-infinate amount of bids since there are 5 of us going, there are 7 rebid zones and almost a month of bidding left before our trip.Any help you can provide would be awesome!!!Thanks!Adam
thereuare Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Since it seems as if you're going to pay the 'going' rate if you're not successful wiht the opaque suppliers, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID and piecing this together with multiple reservations an option? For example, i think you can be successful for a low rate for your Thursday nite stay... but not for the weekend dates. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
aces Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Unfortunately, the people with whom I'm going wouldn't look too kindly on the hastle of checking in/out several times during our trip (especially in the unlikely possibility that we have to switch rooms). Well, I guess I'll just try again for the next week or so and see if the couter bidding stays the same. Thanks for your help, I'll keep you in the loop.Adam
aces Posted June 13, 2006 Author Report Posted June 13, 2006 Went all the way up to $139 tonight and didn't get the room. What's strange is that tonight, priceline only counter-offered my $99 bid (with the same $188). When I bid $109, $119, $129 and $139 I got this message:"Thank You for Naming Your Own Price
thereuare Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 If you're unable to split your bid it will in all likelihood take more than $150. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
dahammer Posted June 13, 2006 Report Posted June 13, 2006 Is this normal?yes, this is just an attempt by Priceline to get you to use their "Shop & Compare" product after a few failed bids.
YankeeCaliguy Posted June 22, 2006 Report Posted June 22, 2006 FWIW-My counter offer was $155 for the Venetian, Winning bid $139 for a difference of $16
