thereuare Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 What is the best rates thru our Car Rental Checker? What is the rate thru Hotwire?I would first call up a few of the major car rental companies, especially those that deal with Hotwire, and ask them if you can drive a rental car from California to Las Vegas... i think it can be done, but many car rental companies have a restriction on the boundary that you are allowed to take their cars, not sure if this would be in the boundary or not.i prefer no automatic but hand used gearsFor the most part this is not available in the United States. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
pirate Posted March 6, 2006 Report Posted March 6, 2006 Hi Emphy,I'm assuming that you are based somewhere in Europe? If you are then the US car rental market is a whole different ball game for you than it is for US citizens, mainly because of the insurance issues. For the length of time that you need a car taking the rental companies own insurance top ups (Think $30 or more per day) is always the most expensive option. I have never found a UK credit card issuer who will include insurance cover for US car rentals. I would be very surprised if you found one in Europe. Why would they, it would not give them any competetive advantage? This leaves two options, buy a holiday auto insurance before you leave home and then rent the car on a "car only" basis; or rent a package designed for european holidaymakers which will include the car and all necessary insurance top ups at a single price. These can be got from consolidators or from the European offices of major US rental companies. If you plan to visit the US more than once in the year then buying your own annual holiday auto insurance becomes a no brainer, because the second trip is effectively "free". But for a single trip for any duration exceeding a week the package route is impossible to beat! believe me I have spent literally hundreds of hours research on this one.In UK the following insurer offers annual policies for
Emphy Posted March 7, 2006 Author Report Posted March 7, 2006 Hi Pirate and others.Very short message will reply longer and decent later!its 07.10 here now have to go and vote and then work :) Loved your message pirate! especially driving the automatic and not put it in drive :o best deal i found sofar is using Hertz.nl (the dutch site) works also for Hertz.de (germany) and hertz.be Belgium!I phoned Avis and Hertz here in the netherlands. Hertz gave me on the phone 2 discount code's which i can use for reserving a car on the internetsite here in the netherlands! :) very nice! The result is 18 days intermediate car pick up at Orange county april 5 -april 23 for $518 dollars INCLUSIVEall taxes all insurance!!!LDW CDW.I personally think this is a great deal! What do you readers think?Ill come back later! its voting day her for the city councils, and i have to rush now to go to work! Thanks so far for the help!and Pirate :) i loved you'r reply :D
pirate Posted March 7, 2006 Report Posted March 7, 2006 Emphy that is a very good deal, the best rates available without insurances etc are about $480 (some a lot more than that!) so you are getting all the insurance cover for only $38. I have seen asking prices for the insurance top ups approaching that PER DAY! This is why, for us Europeans, Priceline etc is no help for car rentals. Plus I always feel that there is extra peace of mind knowing that the rental company has arranged the insurance. If there is a problem you can leave them to deal with it instead of ending up as a pawn between the insurer and the rental company.Glad to see that you found Hertz to be helpful, nowadays I find them to be the best option most of the time.Enjoy your trip, :) Pirate
Emphy Posted March 8, 2006 Author Report Posted March 8, 2006 Pirate,(and thereuare!)I also checked on hertz.co.ukPick up car Orange County USA (John Wayne Airport) april 5 17.00-return april 23 17.00.I dont know the class but the price's on all are showed! For a Midzise? (Toyota Corolla chevrolet classic) option 3 its 304,29 British pounds:Included --> Copy and pasteThe rate quoted, includes airport concession fee recovery, loss damage waiver, tax, liability insurance supplement, vehicle licensing fee:, transaction feethats about 528 $.I havent found a single company that was cheaper! (this option is with prepaid on credit card) pay at the company after arrivel is several 100$ 's of dollars more!the cancel procedure also is very OK.I used a discount option Affiliation code that Herz gave me on the phone! I got 3 from them.1 for AAA (automobile club associated) one for Credit Card and 1 special. al give 10% discount on booking! But only one works :D perfectly logical. So i am pretty sure i am gooing to book the car with Herz! Thanks for all advice and thinking with me :) I wonder why Herz who is considered very OK is now getting rate's far much better as i found on Avis, Alamo, rentawreck, Budget and Dollar rent.checked them all but no-one is even close to the Herz offered price!I had a Herz rental car 10 weeks in Australia in 2003. (stupid i left all the coupons in australia) :) anyway its so good to be on this forum because it is realy saving BIG money :) Sorry Thereuare that you dont have a link on Hertz...otherwise i would have booked it using links you have.Good news on the cellphone also ! (another topic).Take Care!Pirate if you want my email adres message me private :o
