whalaw Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Thereuare,Hey. You have advised me a few times in the past and I am hoping you will do so again. Anyhow, my pertient information is as follows:1. Arrive: 04/03/062. Depart: 04/06/063. Areas: MTE, MTW, and UM/CPS4. Stars: 45. I am aware of re-bidding.6. Price: $175.007. Misc: Price is more important than location.Any help you are able to give is greatly appreciated. Also, is Savingsbarn.com still the recommended site? Thanks.William
thereuare Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 Rates start to get more expensive from mid-March onwards, but nonetheless i would begin with the following since you have plenty of time:Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160.Any questions feel free to ask.Good Luck and let us know how it goes. whalaw Posted February 20, 2006 Author Report Posted February 20, 2006 Thereuare,Thank you for the reply. Tonight, I followed the strategty set-forth above, but to no avail. Should I wait the 72 hours and then retry, adding $5.00 to each bid? William
thereuare Posted February 20, 2006 Report Posted February 20, 2006 Bump this thread a few hours before you're able to re-bid and we'll look at current prices. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted February 22, 2006 Author Report Posted February 22, 2006 Bump this thread a few hours before you're able to re-bid and we'll look at current prices.Bump.Thanks.
whalaw Posted February 25, 2006 Author Report Posted February 25, 2006 I tried Priceline again today using the same pattern as above, but increasing each bid by $10.00. No bids were accepted. Any suggestions? Thanks.WilliamEdited to correct spelling.
whalaw Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 Thereuare,Any suggestions? Thanks.William
thereuare Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 All you can do is increase your bid another $5 and try again, as that would be your limit.Do you have any back-up plan? What will you do if not successful up to your maximum bid? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted March 1, 2006 Author Report Posted March 1, 2006 Thereuare,Thank you for the reply. No, I do not have a back-up plan. I was going to ask you for suggestions. I am going with a friend of mine and we do not need the most well-appointed hotel. We just need a place that is clean and would offer 2 beds. The closer to Radio City Music Hall, the better. Any ideas? Thanks.William
thereuare Posted March 1, 2006 Report Posted March 1, 2006 Would you split your bid or lower your star rating? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 No, on splitting the bid. And, yes on lowering the star rating. Even something not on Priceline would be fine, especially as a back-up. Thanks.William
thereuare Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Why not try a $175 limit first and then we'll suggest a 3* bidding strategy. When researching this earlier today i didn't find anything within you price range thru non-opaque means... even at the 3* level. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 Thereuare,I tried again this morning using the strategy above, with an opening bid of $140 and an ending bid of $180. Unfortunately, no bids were accepted. I don't mind going to $200 per night, but what do you think I could get a 3* for during the same time period? Thank you for your help.William
thereuare Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Probably under $130 would be my guess... but do note that the Paramount is a likley result; great location but notoriously small rooms.Would that work? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 The Paramount would work in a pinch. The reviews aren't great, but I am traveling with a friend and not my wife which does make a difference. Do you think a bid of $200 would be accepted for 4*?
thereuare Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I do think you have a very good change at ~$200... would you rather try for that than a 3*? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
whalaw Posted March 2, 2006 Author Report Posted March 2, 2006 With the Paramount as a possibility, I would rather pay an additional $70 per night to say in a 4*. So, the answer to your question is "yes."
thereuare Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 I would try this based upon your previous rejections:Select 4* MTW...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTE...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $170, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $185, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200. whalaw Posted March 4, 2006 Author Report Posted March 4, 2006 Thereuare,On Hotwire, I found a 4* "Customer Favorite" with Restaurant, Fitness Center, Tennis Nearby, and Business Center in Midtown East for $179. Any ideas? Thanks.William
Emphy Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 Hi There i looked its exactly the same as the one 1 got (same reviews from 3 people with same name's) so its the barclay for my date's march 31 -april 3 its on hotwire for 131$ a night. i got it 127 a night on priceline thru savingsbarn.
thereuare Posted March 5, 2006 Report Posted March 5, 2006 The above is a match for the Inter-Continental so that would be our best guess. In light of this hotel now appearing on Hotwire, if you're still open to any 4* hotels in the previous zones you may want to try bidding again as follows:Select 4* MTE...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* UM/CPS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and UM/CPS...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $155, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously.Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $165, if rejected close browser and re-access priceline however you did previously...Select 4* MTW and MTE and UM/CPS and re-bid zone2...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $175.If the above is rejected you can then take the Hotwire offer.Let us know what you decide or if you have any questions.Good Luck. whalaw Posted March 5, 2006 Author Report Posted March 5, 2006 Thereuare,Following your strategy immediately above and bidding through Savingsbarn.com, I received an offer to raise my bid by $22 at the MTW/MTE $145 level. I rejected the offer and my next bid at $150 was accepted by the Barclay InterContinental. A little bit of patience paid off. Thank you for all your help. William
