Priceline Hotel: Newbie needs advice -- want a certain hotel in CT PLEASE ADVISE

Hi all,

This is my first post here, and will be my first experience using Priceline or Hotwire.

I would like to gamble at the Foxwoods casino in Ledyard, CT and stay over just one night--1/16/06. Most people probably stay at the casino but the rooms are like $150 per night and I think it probably will be a lot cheaper to stay at the closest hotel which is only 3 miles away. That is:

Hilltop Inn And Suites

373 Norwich Westerly Road North

North Stonington , CT 06359

It is sometimes 2, sometimes 2 1/2 stars depending on where you look. Through Priceline's system where they tell you the hotel names it has it available for $63 per night + fees, which is pretty good and I could pick that I want a King bed instead of two Queens.

Do you think I should just go for that, or could I get a better price if I bid something lower, like $40? And also, when you bid for a room do you just get whatever they give you, or can you request one King instead of two Queens?

Thanks for your patience and I apologize in advance for any stupid questions.

Hi...

We got the Hilltop over Labor Day weekend. It's a pretty nice place and definitely close to the Casinos (although we went to Mohegan Sun, which is a little further).

A couple of years ago we got the Amerisuites in Mystic, which we absolutely loved. That's also not very far from Foxwoods (if you have a car).

We usually ask for a King bed at check-in, and frequently, but not always,

are granted our request.

As others have said, you need to be a bit flexible when working with Priceline and Hotwire. Also, consider that both Priceline and Hotwire add their fee, so if you will only be there one night, the actual cost differential may not be that great.

Hi all,

Well by the time we got around to booking something (today) it seemed like the few hotels that I knew were close to the casino were totally booked up or up around $100, so we just decided to go with the Two Trees Inn, which is kind of the budget place to stay at Foxwoods Casino. I think it ended up probably being right around $100 with taxes and everything (I didn't pay for it so I don't know exact amount).

I was going to get it on Hotwire when I was pretty sure it was $33 a night and the Hilltop Inn and Suites, which is the closest one, and at that price if I guessed wrong it would be okay, but today the lowest price was $60, and at that price I wouldn't want to end up a half hour away from the Casino by mistake.

Thank you so much for all your help--I am sure I will bid using your tips at a different time when my needs are different.

while you are up there, you may want to check out some of the hotels around Mystic, Groton, and New London just off I-95. A bit of a drive to the casinos, but you will likely be in a franchise/chain Hotel. I stayed at the Holiday Inn in New London using Priority Club points and it was fine. Didn't make it to the Casino's but went surf fishing in Little Rhody
