moshulu Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Wanted either USE or USW for one night. Had to bid on 2 different days, (3 days apart) and almost gave up since it was getting more expensive than previous wins posted. Was starting to consider a 3 or 4* at SFO instead. Tried at starting $69 and rebid (and rejected four times) in $2 increments up to $77. Started again today, $75, and on last bid got the Renaissance at $88.Was trying to keep it under $100 with taxes/fees, but this is SF, and the websites are selling this room for $179 so I am happy. I read mixed reviews of the rooms, some make it sounds shabby, though.
dahammer Posted November 9, 2005 Report Posted November 9, 2005 Was trying to keep it under $100 with taxes/feesdon't you just hate it when you go over $100....that is becoming more frequent and I find that I'm bidding on 2* and 2.5* properties....Can you please post the dates for your stay?
moshulu Posted December 1, 2005 Author Report Posted December 1, 2005 Nov 16 for one night. It was a a grand old style hotel, and I was most pleased. Nice amenities, including robes, and the room faced the Fairmount with bay views. It turned out to be a terrific deal, and the only drawback is the climb up the hill from Union Square-- but if you have good walking shoes and take your time it is worth it. Due to meeting changes after my arrival I ended up staying two more nights at the Grand Hyatt at Union Square. It's location was more central but it was not as plush. Paid around the same thing again thru Priceline. All in all, both hotels were winners- just different. I give the nod to the Renaissance for ambience but the Hyatt for location. No more aiport hotels around SFO if I can help it!
