Seabs Posted February 5, 2014 Report Posted February 5, 2014 Looking to bid for a hotel for New York City - April 16-20 for my wife and her friend. Acceptable zones would be Times Square-Theatre District or Midtown West. Looking for 4* or higher. Ideally would like to get something for $200 or less. Open to using Priceline or Hotwire. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
AaronJB Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Please provide a follow-up for your prior Toronto Hotwire thread (post what you decided for that stay within that thread, then reply to this thread and we would be happy to take a look and try to ID the listing.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Seabs Posted February 6, 2014 Author Report Posted February 6, 2014 Done. Any help on the NYC bidding is great appreciated.
AaronJB Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 While it's worth trying under $200 in the hopes that something will accept, unfortunately, with HOTWIRE showing midtown 4*'s around $250 or higher, I think a 4* in these zone/s will likely take over $200 (probably in the $220-240 neighborhood.)Thank you for using the board's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
thereuare Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 If you're willing to extend the zones to include MSG PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* property offered for $188/nite with:Free Internet in room Pets Allowed Restaurant Business Center Fitness Center I'm not sure which property this is, but using the link and code in my signature takes another 5% OFF (expires 2/6) and within your budget. Also, i'll mention since it's your wife and a friend, the $188/nite rate is for one queen bed, for 2 doubles the rates goes up to $227/nite (before the extra 5% OFF) which would ensure separate beds for each of them (unless you book a problem that indicates the bed type, one bed in NYC is a realistic possibility)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how you'd like to process, or how it goes, and how we can be of further help. Seabs Posted February 6, 2014 Author Report Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks for the advice. I kind of figured we might be a little optimistic on the price level given those criteria. I think they would be more inclined to go down to 3.5 stars, rather than look at neighbourhoods that are a little farther removed from Times Square.
Seabs Posted February 6, 2014 Author Report Posted February 6, 2014 Also, while two beds would be the preference, it is not a deal breaker if they end up with a single queen.
thereuare Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Not sure how familiar your wife (and her friend) are with NYC, but i venture a guess that they will spend far less time in Times Square then they think, as discussed in this Hotels near Times Square thread (and even if they do want to remain near Times Square, the MSG zone isn't really that far away). However, ultimately is is their stay (and their budget) so they will need to decide which zones they are/aren't willing to accept... and a quick look at current rates it is very possible that for a 3.5* or better in only MTW or TS may take more than $200/nite.Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 OK. So after discussing further, they are now looking at the following:Zones - Central Park South, Madison Square Garden-Convention Centre, Midtown East, Midtown West, Times Square-Theatre District4*April 16-20
thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 More info to confirm with them:CPS- is well located but has the Hudson Hotel which has notoriously small rooms (even by NYC standards), would this be acceptable? (the room can hold the bed and not really much more)MTE- most hotels are located but some can be just over a 10 minute walk to the subway. As long as your wife and her friend enjoy walking it's not as much of an issue in April then if your stay was in the middle of winter, but they need to be OK with the possibility of a 10-15 minute walk to the subwayThe other zones listed above are all fine, imo. Please confirm if we should include/exclude CPS and/or MTE and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow (4* up to $200, correct?)Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted February 7, 2014 Author Report Posted February 7, 2014 With that in mind we wont include CPS and MTE in the search. They would prefer to have locations closer to transit. Thanks again for the help.
thereuare Posted February 7, 2014 Report Posted February 7, 2014 So to confirm we're looking for a 4* hotel in MTW, TS, or MSG with a maximum bid of $200. If this is correct...When bidding 4* in NYC you have TWO re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. While a win in any of these zones at $200 or less may be difficult i would do this over two days just to make sure there is no 'low hanging fruit' available as well as to be able to use smaller increments near the upper end of your budget as you begin to have a more realistic chance at a win.Select 4* MSG...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTW...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $135, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG and MTW...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG and TS...Bid $140, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG, MTW, TS...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $160, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $165If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and re-try, once again using this PRICELINE link to begin your bidding (and NOT the links in any emails that PRICELINE may send informing you that you're eligible to bid again):Select 4* MSG...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MTW...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* TS...Bid $170, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $175, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $180, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG and MTW...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG and TS...Bid $185, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $190, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $193, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINE...Select 4* MSG, MTW, TS...Bid $195, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $198, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $200Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes.
