Seabs Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Looking for some help with bidding. We are going to be in Toronto for 2 nights in August (10th & 11th). Looking for something in the downtown areas (we will be going to a couple of baseball games, so that is most convenient). 4*+. Any tips for timing our bids, and any advice in general on the best way to go about this would be greatly appreciated.
AaronJB Posted June 19, 2012 Report Posted June 19, 2012 Welcome to Betterbidding. :)Please provide your desired budget per night, as well as which PRICELINE zones would be acceptable.Thank you for using the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
Seabs Posted June 19, 2012 Author Report Posted June 19, 2012 I am hoping to get something for around $100/night in either of the Downtown zones (Downtown North or South). Those zones are based on my limited knowledge of Toronto neighborhoods and the fact that we don't want to be too far from Skydome for the baseball games, but I'm open to suggestion on other areas that might work. Thanks for your quick reply
thereuare Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 Please click each of these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links, then reply to this thread and we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow for your stay above. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Thanks. thereuare Posted June 20, 2012 Report Posted June 20, 2012 When bidding 4* in Downtown Toronto you have ELEVEN re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Downtown North and Downtown South...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $75, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $78, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $83, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $88, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $93, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $98, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100At current rates if $100 isn't enough i don't think you're too far off, perhaps another $20 or so, but we'll start with the above and if rejected we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. Seabs Posted June 23, 2012 Author Report Posted June 23, 2012 Slight change of plans..... I now need 2 hotel rooms for the first night(Aug. 10) and 1 room for the second night (Aug. 11).Any thoughts on the best way to do this? Should I bid for 1 and then just book the second room directly after I have successfully booked the first room?
thereuare Posted June 24, 2012 Report Posted June 24, 2012 Any thoughts on the best way to do this? What are your priorities in terms of:-cost-both rooms being at the same property-the person on the two nite stay having to change rooms/hotels mid-stayLet us know the above and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... and please click each of these previous links before replying.Thanks. Seabs Posted June 26, 2012 Author Report Posted June 26, 2012 Preference would be to have both rooms at the same property, and to have the one room at the same hotel both nights. I realize that will cost a little more probably, but that's ok.
Seabs Posted June 26, 2012 Author Report Posted June 26, 2012 Just re-read your post. To clarify, we would want the same hotel both nights, but it wouldn't matter if it was the same room for both nights
thereuare Posted June 27, 2012 Report Posted June 27, 2012 ...we would want the same hotel both nights...You can't guarantee this with PRICELINE. Your options are:purchase two rooms for one nite and one room for the second nite --> guest may need to change hotels the second nitepurchase one room for two nites and an additional room for the first nite --> second purchase for the second room on the first nite may be at a different hotelpurchase two rooms for the first nite and then buy direct for the additional nite --> you're subject to whatever retail rates are for the additional nite at the hotel you winAnother option is to use HOTWIRE where you can try to target the same hotel for each purchase based upon the amenities (and any other information shown by HOTWIRE) before your purchase. While you may be able to better target landing the same hotel for all room nites, the trade-off is that HOTWIRE costs a little more than PRICELINE.Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed. If with HOTWIRE, let us know if both the Downtown East and Downtown West zones are acceptable, and we'll research a bit further and advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 I am thinking that we will use Priceline to buy one room for two nights, and then pay retail for the second room for Friday night. Don't want to take a chance on ending up in seperate hotels, or changing hotels between nights. I was thinking about Hotwire, but I don't think I will go that route because there would still be the chance of multiple hotels. Thanks for your help, I will let you know how the bidding goes.
Seabs Posted June 27, 2012 Author Report Posted June 27, 2012 Bid up to $100 per night for one room for two nights using the re-bids posted above - no luck.
thereuare Posted June 28, 2012 Report Posted June 28, 2012 Are you willing to raise your bid?One things to keep in mind in the 'what if' category... what if the hotel you win is sold-out for Friday nite? (or priced at $300+ for the nite) Are you prepared to pay the going rate OR consider changing hotels and staying at some other property for the first nite? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted June 29, 2012 Author Report Posted June 29, 2012 Bid again last night up to $110 per night with no luck. I am going to increase to $120 if necessary today and see what happens. In terms of the possibility of the second room being unavailable or prohibitively expensive, I still prefer proceeding this way - if theres an issue we will have the option of looking at other nearby hotels to buy directly, or going back and bidding for the additional room if there are no other good options
thereuare Posted June 29, 2012 Report Posted June 29, 2012 In terms of the possibility of the second room being unavailable or prohibitively expensive, I still prefer proceeding this way - if theres an issue we will have the option of looking at other nearby hotels to buy directly, or going back and bidding for the additional room if there are no other good optionsThat's fine... just wanted to point out the possibility that you may still ultimately need/decide to change hotels if the retail rate for the additional nite is too high (or sold-out which would force you to have to change hotel)When bidding 4* in Toronto you have ELEVEN re-bid zones... are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted June 30, 2012 Author Report Posted June 30, 2012 Bid to $120 using the rebids, but still no luck
thereuare Posted June 30, 2012 Report Posted June 30, 2012 Have you checked HOTWIRE... i'm seeing 4* hotels offered in both the Downtown East and Downtown West zones, and each is offered at less than $120/nite.Do you see either/both on your own search? Any interest in these? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Seabs Posted February 6, 2014 Author Report Posted February 6, 2014 We were able to get the Hyatt Regency for this trip at $125 a night. It was perfect. Right in the middle of downtown Toronto and extremely close to the Rogers Centre. Thank you for your help on this one.
AaronJB Posted February 6, 2014 Report Posted February 6, 2014 Thank you for closing the thread.Hope you enjoyed your stay.
