I am arriving 2 days before the rest of my party who has a place rented.

I am coming by myself from Alaska and want a nice place to veg and be able to walk around some and be near the beach. I am not a sit in the sun person though.

I am going to try the 4* area on Priceline, and see people putting in bids from $128 to $160.

Any suggestion on where to start?

There seem to be some properties available. It's a good idea to look at hotwire (and hotwire vacations) and priceline vacations to see what you MIGHT get. Your price range could snag you a resort -- 4 stars could potentially be UNDER $100.

Bid low and rebid in 3 days if you don't get something. But your time grows short.

I just won a bid last week in the Kamuela area, just north of Kona... you can read my trail on This post about what did and didn't work.... I wound up paying $140 a night for the Hilton Waikoloa in the Kamuela area... I don't think that Kona has any 4 stars in the Kona section of Priceline...

Good luck and have fun!
