songdoc Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Hi --I'm hoping to book a hotel for one night (Oct. 2nd) close to the San Jose airport. I'll be arriving 11:10PM and will need to be back at the airport by 7:00AM the next morning. I don't really care where I stay--or the star rating--as long as it has an airport shuttle, and a low price. (2 star would be fine.) Is there any way to know if the hotels in the San Jose zone would have an airport shuttle? Thanks!
thereuare Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 Is there any way to know if the hotels in the San Jose zone would have an airport shuttle?Only by using HOTWIRE and choosing a hotel that shows a Shuttle amenity... but as you're arriving late, there is no way to ensure that the shuttle runs 24 hours a day (or after 11pm), especially at the lower rated hotels. You could use HOTWIRE and try to determine the hotel offered and then research if their shuttle runs 24/7, but there would still be a risk given that you would have to have accurately guessed the correct hotel (or received a different hotel that also offers shuttle service at the time that you arrive)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. songdoc Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 Thanks. I was afraid of that. The (2) Hotwire hotels that show a shuttle as part of their amenities are too expensive. (The lowest is $100.) I'll have to think about this ... I'll probably take a chance and bid low for a Priceline hotel and hope that I get one with a shuttle (that runs after 11 PM) or hope I get something close enough to offset the cost of the taxis. The previous poster got the 3* Holiday Inn for $52. They have a shuttle--and if it's not running, it's less than a mile from the airport, so a taxi wouldn't be much. The alternative is to book through a traditional site where I can know I'd be less than a mile away -- or they have a shuttle. Thanks for your help. Will be sure to use your link if I go with PRICELINE.
songdoc Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 Hi --I used your link to bid on a HOTWIRE Hotel for a one-night layover at the San Jose airport. There were only two 2-1/2 star hotels listed on your hotel list -- and one of them matched the amenities of the Hotwire listing. I booked the 2-1/2 star Hotwire hotel for $63, certain it was the La Quinta. That would be perfect because it is only 1/2 mile from the airport and they have a 24 hour shuttle. I was very surprised to get Extended Stay America because that was on your list as a 2-star -- not 2-1/2. I'm sure it'll be fine for my purposes. I'm just disappointed that I made the decision based on expecting one of the hotels on your 2-1/2 star list.

Romelle Posted September 5, 2012 Report Posted September 5, 2012 songdoc,A word of caution about your early morning shuttle return. While it very rarely happens, when shuttles are full, hotels can give airline crews priority. And airline crews seem to get posted in the middle star hotels and usually need those early morning shuttles. Be sure to book yours at the front desk rather than just showing up hopeful in the morning. On the other hand, when the hotel is hosting lots of crew, breakfast can be open earlier than the indicated hours. Good luck. RomelleIf you haven't already, you might look at the Hotel Review area at the very end of this site. I'm thinking if a Priceline hotel in an airport zone doesn't provide shuttle service there will be some major whining showing up there. I know the MSP airport zone has one hotel without shuttle service and people have definitely expressed their displeasure on that one. However, I also know that particular hotel has figured out a bus run that works, and keeps copies of its schedule on their front desk.
songdoc Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 PS. I want to add that I know that Hotwire changes hotel ratings--and that's not your fault. And I know that you state that this is a possibility. But I want to warn other readers that they can't always trust that the ratings on the list to be accurate. Despite the disclaimer, I trusted that they would be.And I hope this will be changed on the list.
