thereuare Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 I'm not currently seeing this property offered when searching HOTWIRE for your dates... are you still seeing the above on your own search? If so, are you searching HOTWIRE for more than one room or for more than the default 2adults/0children?Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. kjohn Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Any recommendations on a strategy to follow to get the best deal? I'd like to be in this area only (near UCSD for convenience). Thanks!
Colfax Posted July 26, 2011 Report Posted July 26, 2011 A moderator will merge this with your other thread for these dates. Then please keep all posts regarding this stay in one thread. Thanks. :) What's your general budget for this stay, as that will dictate your options. Summer weekends in the Coastal zones can be expensive. Hotwire has a 3* in La Jolla for $180 and a 2* for $256. Nothing higher rated than 3* now. If either of those interest you please post the icons and someone will try to ID.You can try beating Hotwire's rate on Priceline, bidding PL's Coastal zone. PL's Coastal zone is larger than HW's La Jolla zone though and includes hotels in the Mission Bay area, if Mission Bay is close enough to UCSD for your purposes. You can't limit your bid to just La Jollla hotels on PL.If you're trying to save money you'll likely find better rates bidding/searching inland zones adjacent to La Jolla, rather than La Jolla itself. On Priceline those zones include: Sorrento Mesa and Mission Valley East-Central SD. (Even though PL calls the zone "Mission Valley East" it's really Mission Valley North plus Kearney Mesa area.) On Hotwire the nearby adjacents are: Mira Mesa and Kearney Mesa-Stadium.Let us know if you want to try Priceline bidding and if so in which zones/quality levels. Please use these HOTWIRE and PRICELINE links for your purchases.
kjohn Posted July 26, 2011 Author Report Posted July 26, 2011 Thanks. For future reference, if I want to try Priceline instead of Howire, should I continue in the same threat in the Hotwire forum? My budget is $100-180 range for a 3.5-4*. I would prefer to be in La Jolla. If I understand correctly, the $180 3* on HW is the Holiday Inn, right? Any chance of new hotels popping up or is that a slim chance? It doesn't look like HW has anything in Mission Bay that would fit my needs either.Based on the hotels available on the PL hotel list, I see what you're saying. Half the hotels are in La Jolla and half are in Mission Bay. And there's no strategy to get myself in La Jolla either, huh?I think I'll try San Diego coastal for 4 stars and hope for the best... no more than $120, otherwise, I'll just pick the Marriott or Sheraton La Jolla ($159-%169 on most sites). Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Colfax Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 It's okay to mix PL and HW in the same thread. It's easier to follow the flow if you keep all the options you're considering (HW, PL, other) in one place. A moderator will move the whole thread to the right board after you find something.Earlier today you asked about a 3.5* in La Jolla for $161. Then it disappeared before anyone could ID it. Now it's back, still $161.Near Beach, Smokefree, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Highspeeed, Golf, TennisMy best guess: Hotel La Jolla at the Shores, upgraded from 3* at last report. This hotel is odd in that it shows a 55% approval rating, which isn't very good, but it has a 4/5 TripAdvisor rating, which IS good. You can look at the TripAdvisor reviews and decide if this might work for you, since it is the La Jolla location you want and under your $180 max.If you buy it please use this HOTWIRE link and let us know what you get.Or if you'd rather go the Priceline route let us know and someone will give a strategy.Half the hotels are in La Jolla and half are in Mission Bay. And there's no strategy to get myself in La Jolla either, huh? Nope, sorry. :)
kjohn Posted July 27, 2011 Author Report Posted July 27, 2011 Ok, thanks for the heads up!I thought it might be be Hotel La Jolla at the Shores... I should have booked it when it was available, but it's only a couple dollars different, so I just went ahead and booked it. It's a bit of a savings from the $233.75 normally through the other sites... (used the link below) It's the hotel I was originally aiming for too.. Now, I just hope it's as good as the reviews... I recently stayed at the Omni Berkshire in MTC NYC and the girl at the front desk said that they had "special" rooms for priceline customers... :)Anyhow, thanks for all your help!
thereuare Posted July 27, 2011 Report Posted July 27, 2011 Congratulations on your success! It's not 100% clear from your post... you purchased the 3.5* property with Near Beach, Smoke Free, Fitness, Pool, Restaurant, Internet, Golf, Tennis icons for 8/5-8/7 at $161/nite and it was the La Jolla at the Shores? Please add a reply to this thread confirming that we have the details correct.Thank you for sharing your results and using the HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your purchase.Enjoy your stay.
