I clicked the HOTWIRE link as you asked. Looks like the same hotel is now $100, quite a jump in less than 12 hours. Can you id the hotel? Very little is available in 'central' San Diego at this time due to a comic book convention. I do not know if more will appear as it gets closer or if the rooms will get booked.

Thank you for your help

Another option, there is a 2* Seaworld-Mission Bay-Shelter Island with laundry and internet for $114 (same dates and people). Possibly a concern that it is only recommended by 45% of Hotwire customer reviews.

Thank you

Unfortunately neither of these properties have yet been identified and there are just too many budget hotels in these zones to have any insight with the limited amenities shown. The 45% recommended is a bit disconcerting and i'd be very leery of that one, especially if traveling with kids.

What is the purpose of this stay and what is your maximum budget?

Trip purpose is to go to a wedding. We'll go a day early to sight see. I love HOTWIRE but there are just very few options on those dates unless we go out of town a ways... Budget, I would like to stay around $150 but that is barely getting a 2* hotel that weekend. Disappointing but my dates are fixed.

Too bad the wedding's during Comic-Con because that's one of the busiest hotel weekends of the year in San Diego, and as you've seen, prices are sky high.

Hotwire only has one hotel in all of Downtown and Gaslamp zones--a 2* for $318!!

If you can find an acceptable hotel for $100 during Comic-Con you're doing good, I think.

I don't know where VLAC is. If you know the address or neighborhood we could look for things in that vicinity if possible.

Yes, a very busy weekend for San Diego! Not the time to go if I could of picked the date...

I ended up booking a hotel through a site called bookit.com at a decent rate. Inflated due to the convention but it was ok.
