OnTheGoAgain Posted September 5, 2010 Report Posted September 5, 2010 Am new to this site and have read some posts but looking for some advice. I am looking for 4* for one night (Sat Sept 18th) in either Mayfair/Soho or Regents/Baker areas. My budget is $150. Can someone give me guidance on how to start the bidding. Thanks in advance.
thereuare Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 Welcome to BetterBidding!Based upon current price, this looks like it may be a tough win at $150 or less for a 4* hotel but to give it a try...At the 4* level you have ONE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.Select 4* Mayfair/Soho...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Regents/Baker...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $120, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair/Soho and Regents/Baker...Bid $125, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130If the above is rejected wait 24 hours from your last rejected bid and re-try as follows (once again starting with the PRICELINE link from this board):Select 4* Mayfair/Soho...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Regents/Baker...Bid $135, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Mayfair/Soho and Regents/Baker...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $150Any questions feel free to ask. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. OnTheGoAgain Posted September 6, 2010 Author Report Posted September 6, 2010 First of all, thank you for the suggestions. Secondly, sorry if i posted this on the wrong board (if I can move this post to the correct board, let me know).I got thru the first scenario (rejected). I closed my browser and clicked on the PRICELINE link (from this post) to open a new session but when I selected 4* Regents/Baker $110, submitted - I got a message that it was a duplicate request. Do I need to close ALL browsers? Thanks again!
thereuare Posted September 6, 2010 Report Posted September 6, 2010 In your first round of bidding, what did you use as your re-bid zone? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. OnTheGoAgain Posted September 7, 2010 Author Report Posted September 7, 2010 Ugh, I made a mistake and added Regents as my rebid zone when I should have added Wembley. I'll wait my 24 hrs and start over (which in a few hours).Thanks. I'll let everyone know.
OnTheGoAgain Posted September 8, 2010 Author Report Posted September 8, 2010 Hi,I won on the option Regents Park/Baker (with rebid zone- Wembley) for $140! And they upgraded me to 5* The Landmark!! It looks great. One quick question - when I was bidding just Regents Park/Baker (no rebid yet) for $135, it wasn't accepted but said I could make another bid if I increased it by $30 to $165. Is that typically a good thing to do (free rebid?) - I didn't choose to do that but rather chose to add my Wembley zone and won.THANKS SO MUCH for your help and assistance. This site is great!!Jennifer
hohogap Posted September 8, 2010 Report Posted September 8, 2010 Generally you can get the rebid hotel for less than the proposed re-bid price. If you can choose an free re-bid area, I always try to bid slightly less than half of the re-bid offer. Today I had bid at $130 for a 5* property, the rebid offer was $165, and I rebid on a free zone at $141 and luckily my bid was accepted! It's always a crap shoot to say for sure, but I use the re-bid offer amounts to be sure I bid less than their offer. I've usually had the lesser bid accepted, even if I had to wait 24 hours for the re-bid.
