newyork2005
Hello,I am looking for a 3* hotel in Jersey City for June 20-24. Hotwire is offering a 3.5*(I think the Hyatt??) for $82/night for these dates. I will be mixing my stay with a 2 night stay in NYC.What should i bid? THank youJosh Link to comment
thereuare
Let's take care of the NYC side of things first as that will be the more expensive part of your stay... don't want to get the easy side (NJ) and then not have anything affordable on the NYC side.At least that is how i would do it... but let's stay on top of this to get it done "now" so to make sure that the HOTWIRE 'safety' above doesn't disappear. thereuare
I see you're done on the NEW YORK POST.I would select 3* Jersey City and try bidding $48.Let us know how it goes. newyork2005
RejectedI tried $50 for a 3* Jersey City and was rejected. I thought $48 was low-balling a bit and i guess so is $50.I'll bid again in 3 days, any ideas on how much i should bid? Thanks, Josh Link to comment
MDTyKe
Im not sure what's up with the Hyatt dude.. it's gone up to $265 or something a night on Hotwire now. Maybe it's all a mixup... could be affecting Priceline too - I'll see what theruare says when he comes on - maybe it's done this before.Matt Link to comment
newyork2005
Not sure about the $265 on Hotwire you mentioned. I just checked it and they have a 3.5* for $83/night(which I'm told is the Hyatt). I hope I have the right area designated (Hoboken- Jeresey City). Josh Link to comment
MDTyKe
weirda few other people are reporting prices like mine too:Hoboken - Jersey City - See map [for Jun 20-24]Selected amenities include: Restaurant(s), Pool(s), Business Center. View complete amenity list and description Ref No. 6330754192 $286 per room per night -- tried it in IE and Opera.. same thing Link to comment
newyork2005
OH NO!!My browser was displaying $83 earlier today but they just went up to $286. I tried backtracking to the $83 rate but it said the offer had expired. How can this happen???? That is more than what Hyatt is selling the room for. Hopefully someone can help me out here. thereuare
Give it a few days and see if things settle down a bit.Do try the $55 bid after your 72 hours is up, although i suspect those rates have been pulled as well. :) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
newyork2005
After seeing rates skyrocket on Hotwire, I'm a little skeptical on the $55 bid. SInce I'm willing to pay 75 or 80 dollars a night, should I just bid $75 and have a better chance of being accepted?? Or does it not work that way? Josh Link to comment
indywaiter
Your chances increase of getting a bid accepted the higher you bid BUT you will probably get another hotel like the Doubletree Suites. It seems like a nice hotel but it aint the Hyatt. Link to comment
cabara
When bidding recently for my brother, we found the prices on Hotwire for the Hyatt Regency bounced around quite a bit. From $75 at one point to almost $200. The good news is they bounced down as well as up. So I'd keep watching it. Also, the rates varied tremendously depending on what dates we plugged in. So ultimately we got four nights at $75 a night, even though we only needed three nights. Getting the lower price for four nights was still cheaper than the higher price for three.Good luck! thereuare
I've seen prices jump from $70's to $200's when adding/removing days, but i suspect there might be something bigger going on at work here. newyork2005
Ok,3 days have passed. I was rejected at $60 for 3* and $62 2.5* in Jersey City. I'm not too surprised by these results and I hope prices drop before my trip. In case they don't, do you have any alternative suggestions, possibly getting the Four Points by Newark Airport??Thanks,Josh Link to comment
newyork2005
With regards to some other posts,I tried changing my dates around to get lower rates on Hotwire to no avail. In fact, I tried most weeks in early summer and all the rates were high. I also tried adding dates and cutting some dates making my trip shorter to no avail.Josh Link to comment
thereuare
You don't want to stay at the Four Points, as discussed in this HOTEL REVIEW and the ones HERE.I would be a little patient with this one and see how things play out over the next two weeks. The Hyatt will obviously be losing quite a bit of business with their current opaque rates (business which i would bet was incremental and didn't take away from their traditional bookings) so maybe they'll revert back to lower prices if they don't like losing the business and seeing the high level of vacancies that result (which is not good for the bottom line or employee moral... every employee that works on tips does not want to see high vacancy levels at their hotel)There are always other areas to try (in and around the Meadowlands) but i wouldn't resort to trying those this far in advance of your stay. newyork2005
Another 3 days...Rejected at $70, I guess I'll just wait until rates drop before I look at other areas. What would be the second best area to stay for commuting to NYC daily besides Jersey City in case the rates don't drop. Josh Link to comment
Garee
So does this mean even Doubletree has increased their price? Since a $70 bid was rejected. Link to comment
thereuare
Rates differ from day to day based upon supply/demand... all you can ascertain from the above is that $70 is not currently enough at the Doubletree for this particular date either. newyork2005
3 days...I bid $75 for a 3* in jersey city and then re-bid adding the *2.5 for $75 as well. Both rejected. I'll wait another 3 days and bid $80. Since that is my max for the Jersey side, I guess I'll add in the 2*level and see if I can get the Candlewood suites.Josh Link to comment
Garee
I bid 2* for April 16 at $62 this morning (April 2). Was rejected and suggested to add $17 to the bid. So I rebid at $79 and was accepted, but upgraded to 2.5* Jersey City Marriot Courtyard.Hope this helps. Link to comment
vatraveler
I bid 2* for April 16 at $62 this morning (April 2). Was rejected and suggested to add $17 to the bid. So I rebid at $79 and was accepted, but upgraded to 2.5* Jersey City Marriot Courtyard.Hope this helps. You never have to add the full suggested increase. I usually go up $5 or so. Just something to think about for future bids. Link to comment
newyork2005
Priceline has never suggested that I raise my prices by any amount, does that mean that I'm not even close???Josh Link to comment
newyork2005
Rejected at $80 for 3* and 2.5*in Jersey City. Any higher than that and its not worth staying in Jersey. I'll wait until the end of the month to see if the Hotwire rates change, and if not, I'm going to cancel the Eastgate Towers in NYC and book a 2 star in NYC (either the Grand Union for $116 or Best Western for $118) for the entire week through EasyClickTravel. I appreciate all the help through this website, but its too bad that Priceline didn't work out for me. Josh Link to comment
dahammer
using HOTWIRE, a 3* with Restaurant and Fitness Center shows up for $136 per night, this could be the Holiday Inn Midtown or Park Central Hotel, your walk out price with taxes and fees makes this $160.00 per night. I have stayed at the HI Midtown and it was just OK, but a decent location. Not sure about the Park Central, never stayed here. Link to comment
