TOURISTIM Posted March 14, 2005 Report Posted March 14, 2005 Hey, this is the coolest site, such a smart idea. I'm looking at a bunch of hotels in NYC on Hotwire and am wanting to stay in the "heart of the action". Just wondering if you could identify these hotels? Thanks Alot! Also any recommendations as per these hotels? And how long do these rates normally apply? Thanks So Much. :) HOTWIRE (APRIL 21 - 25)Times Square - Theatre District (Midtown) - *** $170 per room per night Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center. Midtown Central (Midtown) - *** $164 per room per night Selected amenities include: Restaurant(s), Fitness Center.Midtown Central (Midtown) - ***1/2 (3 1/2 *) $198 per room Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Business Center. thereuare Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Welcome to BetterBidding! The only hotel above we have some insight on is the 3* MTC which matches both the Holiday Inn Midtown and the Park Central. Reviews of each are mixed (HERE and HERE, although many of our board users like the PARK CENTRAL REVIEWS). However, you would need to be comfortable getting either property since it could be either one (or an entirely different hotel we don't yet know about). My thoughts? I try to discourage users from wanting to be in the "heart of it all" as NYC is small enough that it's very easy to get wherever you want to go. Most first time visitors imagine much of their time will be spent in Times Square but once they're there, they see all the lights and such, and after that wears off there's really nothing there except tourists who walk slow and crowd the streets when you're trying to get someplace! After a few trips to/from your hotel and having to deal with the crowded sidewalks it gets old real fast. (others may disagree, but the above is my .02)If i could get a great deal would i avoid a hotel in Times Square, probably not, but i certainly wouldn't "pay up for it". So where is the value for your dates?Check out the reviews of the BEEKMAN TOWER where you can get a 1BR suite for $156/nite by CLICKING HERE. Again, this is not in the "heart of the action", but you're about a 10-15 minute walk to Times Square, an 8 minute bus ride, or a $5 and 5 minute cab ride away (oh yeah, get used to walking... it's NYC!)The above is the best value, but if you want to spend more you can stay at the DUMONT PLAZA (owned by same chain as the Beekman) where the reviews are just as good and you can get a Stuio Suite for $216/nite.Keep in mind this is your vacation and not mine, and we're both entitled to like different things, so if you're vacation will be ruined if you're not in the center of the action, then stick to your guns and we'll help you get what you want. I'm usually a bit more value oriented and will make compromises in order to get the best bang for my buck.Whatever you decide to do we'll still help :) . Let us know what you think of the above idea(s) and we'll take it from there. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
TOURISTIM Posted March 15, 2005 Author Report Posted March 15, 2005 Thanks for the help. I can understand what you mean about the location and since it is relatively small wouldn't mind walking abit extra. The key thing really is the price range, we want to spend roughly 200USD and under inclusive of taxes. Any ideas? Thanks Again
thereuare Posted March 15, 2005 Report Posted March 15, 2005 Do you see the link above to the Beekman? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
TOURISTIM Posted March 21, 2005 Author Report Posted March 21, 2005 Hi Yeah,I caught that link, thanks. It may just come down to the beekman. Any idea on this hotel?:Times Square - Theatre District (Midtown) $173 per room ***Selected amenities include: Boutique Hotel, Restaurant(s), Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center. Between the Beekman, Park Central, and the one above, which would you recommend? And I know you can get cheaper rates using Netscape and not logging on but any additional tips for getting an even better deal? Maybe something geared towards Canadian customers? Thanks Again
KatiesMom Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Your post caught my interest because I've noticed that hotwire is really changing amenities lately.(It kinda looks like the hotwire 3* might be the Paramount, although it doesn't match its usual amenities. If so, I think the Beekman is the nicest of your 3 choices. Its only disadvantage is that is in midtown east, rather than right in Times Square, but to me that would be no big deal.)
WillTravel Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 Maybe something geared towards Canadian customers? If there is such a way to get better deals by being a Canadian customer, I've never heard of it. You can go to Destina.ca, which is oriented towards Canadian customers, or some other Canadian travel site, but it will certainly be much more expensive than these other options presented. (Perhaps you are thinking of some of the dollar-at-par deals I've heard of. I doubt there are any of these for NYC, and when I've looked into them for other cities, they still weren't a better deal than some combo of Priceline, Hotwire, or EasyClickTravel.)
thereuare Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 It may just come down to the beekmanHopefully you've made a reservation already, as it is now listed as 'on request' for your dates. TOURISTIM Posted March 22, 2005 Author Report Posted March 22, 2005 Any ideas not that other hotel mentioned there? Thanks.
thereuare Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Do you have the Beekman reserved or not?Knowing this will give us an idea of your 'next best option'. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases
thereuare Posted March 23, 2005 Report Posted March 23, 2005 THE BEEKMAN is listed as 'on request' due to one nite of your trip being unavailable. I would submit a request and see if they can fufill the reservation for you as the concensus seems to believe that this is your best bet.You should find out by the end of the weekend if it's available or not, which isnt' too bad as your stay is a month away and you don't seem to be in too much of a hurry anyway. The Shearton Russel seems to be available thur HOTWIRE for $185/nite, but i still think the Beekman is a better choice. It is worth a try!Hotel:Hilton New York1335 Avenue Of The AmericasNew York, New York 10019United States212-586-7000Check-In Date: Friday, October 22, 2004Check-Out Date: Saturday, October 23, 2004
thereuare Posted March 28, 2005 Report Posted March 28, 2005 jluff,Please post your winning bid a NEW TOPIC (even though it's old we'll still like it posted on the board). Unfortunatley the rates you received back in October of last year are not going to be available for the above stay as rates are substantially higher. TOURISTIM Posted April 6, 2005 Author Report Posted April 6, 2005 Just to let you all know, gave up on the priceline avenue, ran a bid upto 165/170 for all but one zones - started getting way too expensivefor the 3star method. So took up hotwire, Midtown East (Midtown) - 3.5 starRestaurant(s), Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access, Business Center. $164 per roomper nightTurned out to be The Roosevelt Hotel...saved a crap load of money, but also hadto raise the budget a little..these dates seem to be really expensive. Just thought I'dpost this, give the heads up. Cheers for everyones help.
