IBDP Posted August 1, 2010 Report Posted August 1, 2010 I sure could use some help. I have just tried every area of New York City up to $195.00 with no luck at all.My preferred area would be Empire State Building, but at this point any area will do. I have set a price cap of $200.00, but seems like that may not work. Also, I prefer a 4* or 3.5*, but in the Chelsea area, a 3 or 2.5* would work. Thanks in advance for the help.Regards,Donna
thereuare Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Unfortunately i don't see how this is likely going to happen within your budget...GTA Hotels has the awfully reviewed Hotel Pennsylvania for $150/nite... it's cheap, but the reviews are really bad, but i'm throwing it out there just in case (although i'll caution to read the reviews before purchasing... did I mention the reviews aren't very good :) )Not sure your needs/purpose of this trip, but would Secaucus and/or Jersey City be an option? Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases

IBDP Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 Thanks for the info. I just checked GTA Hotels (which I just discovered through you, Thereuare...thanks. It seems the price has risen to $209 for the Pennsylvania. That cements my decision not to go there. I am going to give NYC one more try when my 24 hours is up; if no success, I will try Long Island City. I will report the progress (or not). BTW, I always go through your PRICELINE link.Regards,Donna
IBDP Posted August 2, 2010 Author Report Posted August 2, 2010 Boy, it's tough out there in bidding land for 8/2-8/4 in New York City. Only one other time have I experienced this lack of inventory and ridiculously high prices. Luckily this trip is not for me; otherwise I would have spent multiple hours in New York trying to get hotels in New York.Since this is a business trip for a person in my company and he is spending time at NYU and Rockefeller University, I went with the east side burbs as opposed to the Jersey side. Regards,DonnaPS Does anyone have any idea if these are just "summer prices" or if something else is going on?
AaronJB Posted August 2, 2010 Report Posted August 2, 2010 Congrats on your success. :)Nice deal for this property. NYC definitely appears busier and more expensive for patches of the Summer and definitely the Fall than in the last 2-3 years. There may be something going on as well, but prices in general have also been higher. Thank you for letting us know about this new PRICELINE link so that we can update the site's Priceline Hotel List for the state.Thank you for sharing your win and using the site's PRICELINE link.Enjoy your stay.
dahammer Posted August 3, 2010 Report Posted August 3, 2010 PS Does anyone have any idea if these are just "summer prices" or if something else is going on?I have read several articles which mention that the business traveller is back. While not scientific, a quick glance at the PRICELINE Calendar of Wins for NY shows higher prices for the first two weeks of August, 2010 compared to August 2009, so I guess the law of supply and demand really works :) .PS, I stayed at the Quality Inn last year, you may want to tell your colleague that there are few dining options within walking distance of this hotel.
IBDP Posted August 3, 2010 Author Report Posted August 3, 2010 Thanks dahammer for the info. Do you know the names of these dining options?Regards,Donna
