I think you may discover that parking is considerably more than $5 per day. I was told that the Rosen Plaza charges $13 per day for self-parking and $20 per day for valet.

I bit the bullet, and did get the 4* Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf 9/13 - 9/16/2014 @ $85.00 per night (plus fees of $53.13) (-$12.75 for FALL5)TOTAL $295.38 And if it's too loud....we can sleep during the cruise (since it's 24 nights onboard to Australia)! BTW - I did call the Sheraton and, of course, they said there is no construction going on. But, as you said, it's still almost a year until our stay, so no need to think about it now! Haven't booked yet, but do now know that it is (or at least was yesterday) the Sheraton. A fellow cruiser had already booked it at the $86 price and did get the Sheraton Fisherman's Wharf. She had posted a win on our cruisecritic roll-call, but I couldn't get a timely reply from her to find out which hotel she had purchased (did hear from her today). The reviews are not spectacular, and there is mention of a lot of noise from construction of a new subway connection there. Is anyone more familiar with SF than I am about this? I do have the Radisson reserved -- on points -- for 2 nights, but it's a LOT of points (44,000 per night!), which I'd rather not waste if this might be a decent substitute at the bargain price-point. (And at this price I can buy a bunch of earplugs!) Will post if I do book it (on the link here, naturally!) Thanks for all the help and advice. BTW - the same hotel was showing up as a Hotwire purchase at the same price -- but would end up being $10 per night more with the higher charges (and without the FALL5 discount)

Thanks for the quick responses. I'm in a quandry, because it's still such a long time off for the stay. OTOH the $85 a night price for whatever 4* is pretty amazing. (I have the Radisson reserved using points, but that's a LOT of points to spend.) I hesitate to book just one night to find out the result, because then it might be possible that I wouldn't be able to get the other nights. Decisions, decisions... Thanks again. I've started looking for a pre-cruise hotel for Sept. 13 - 16, 2014 (!!)and, although I'd be very happy in a Union Square hotel, I'm seeing a 4* FW Express Deal for $85 per night (- the 5% FALL5 discount). Seems VERY cheap. Any good instincts about which hotel it might be? BW Plus Tuscan maybe? Only rated 7/10 (which really isn't high enough for the BW) and includes outdoor pool, free internet in public areas, pets allowed, restaurant, business center, fitness center. Thanks for any help.

We enjoyed 3 nights at the Urbano last November (neither Priceline nor Hotwire, but purchased with a Skyauction bid). It's a nice boutique hotel with very friendly and helpful staff, and well furnished guest rooms. It's really not within walking distance - including any restaurants - to much of anything (except a visit to Vizcaya, the beautiful estate of Charles Deering), but you can get the free downtown trolley (or city bus for a dollar or so) in front of the hotel's door and go to the nearby Brickell shopping area. If you will have a rental car -- parking at the hotel is pretty expensive (almost $30 IIRC) and there is almost NO nearby street parking (unless you want to spend a lot of your one-night stay looking for an available spot). Enjoy yourself and have a great cruise. :)

Extended Stay Deluxe orlando - Maitland - Pembrook Drive Price is o.k., although I had trouble identifying the hotel from the Hotwire description. This is not one that's listed on TA for Altamonte Springs, and Maitland seems to be included in the Orlando general listings. Will definitely work for us for the one-night stay. 2 1/2 * -- 4/5 rating (200 + ratings listed in description at Hotwire, but actually only a total of 33 ratings on TA ) $32.00 + $10.18 (taxes and fees) Amenities: free parking, fitness center, pool(s), laundry facilities, hi-speed internet access. Naturally, booked through the HOTWIRE link (upper left corner) :)

Joao, We recently enjoyed a lovely 3 night stay at the Marriot Santiago (won on Priceline for $81 per night and posted here several months ago). The hotel is beautiful, but not very convenient to public transportation. There is an enormous mall very close by (2 minutes by foot). We were offered, and accepted, an upgrade by the Marriott -- it was $50 extra per night, but included breakfast in the executive lounge as well as cocktails and various tapas in the evening, access to free soft drinks in the lounge until midnight, and free internet. Our upgraded room was on the top floor and had the most incredible view of the mountains surrounding the area. It was definitely worth the upcharge -- at least for us. Wishing you a wonderful stay.

Needed two rooms for this four-night stay, and we really enjoyed this Sheraton Suites on a previous trip. It was available on Hotwire for $85, so I was pretty sure I could get it on PL for less. Followed Kerlik's example from an earlier posting and got it with $70 on the first bid (too high? maybe, but I'm more than satisfied). 2 rooms / 4 nights @ $70 pNight, pRoom = $560.00 Taxes & Fees = $80.80 TOTAL = $640.80 Naturally, using the above PRICELINE link - as always :D

After searching the topic (and really not expecting to see that anyone had ever won a bid in Santiago), I tried my luck for a stay next March. Many thanks to Fermat for reporting his win from last October (for this past March). I got it on the first bid (probably overbid a bit, but still a great bargain). :) Santiago Marriott - Las Condes 3 nights at $81 . $243.00 Taxes............... 14.58 (can only be fees for Priceline, as Chile charges no taxes for non-Chileans). TOTAL.............. $257.58 Naturally, bid through the PRICELINE link above! :)

If you look just a couple of postings below yours, to one posted by Pompey Fan, you will find that his 3* Maingate -- with the same amenity icons as you list, at the same $26 - is the Baymont Inn Celebration. Hope this helps.

Just a heads up -- but, I remember reading that the Gaylord Palms does incur a Resort Fee (on top of the Priceline fees) for your stay. Check their website. Still a great deal!

We had a fantastic time at the Old Lahaina Luau on Maui during our visit there two years ago. It was a great evening -- the show was excellent (can't remember anything about there being much, if any, fire), but the event was magical, and the food was very good. It's not cheap, (ca. $ 100 per person), but we were glad we did it. Having won the VIATOR gift certificate here on BB made it a no-brainer to use it to enjoy the luau. I know that it's a "done deal" and that NCHalfback's stay is already over, but why -- even if there were no other issues -- would he assume that a PL win for one room would suffice for four people, including 2 teenagers (especially in a metropolitan area hotel)?

Hi maggiemay, Just to let you know that you are not alone in these "glitches". I had one happen about two years ago for a San Francisco offering -- which was also priced WAAAAY too low (similar to your NYC pricing)! After it not going through twice, I also called the hotline. Although I was willing to have the CS person book it for me (not so happy about that because I really wanted to continue booking online to use the HOTWIRE link above), she was also unable to get it booked. She ultimately gave up trying to get the booking done. The price disappeared shortly thereafter from the website. So, even though it's no longer necessary for your inquiry here, do know that even Hotwire can make mistakes.

I'm looking at a 4* offering for the ESB area for 3/31 - 4/7/11, and found this one at $152 per night. In checking with the HW list here, I came up with the possibility of St. Giles - The Court, and checking through the HW vacation packages, the possibility of the Fashion 26 (which would be excellent). thereuare or Aaron or anyone familiar with the area: Any best guess? I don't think you will find NYOP hotels on Priceline for anywhere in Switzerland other than Zurich. I also tried Basel and Lucerne for your dates. Priceline is showing lots of hotel possibilities, but none for which you can bid, only regular booking. An excellent european website for hotel prices is www.hrs.de Put in your information and see what they come up with

What great recommendations!! :) I'm printing them out and filing them away for future reference -- one can always dream, right?? Who knows...it could happen. We were there only two years ago -- sigh!

Dorsetjohn, Unless I am reading your post incorrectly, I think you need to check your maths again re the taxes! 14.5% of $238 per night = $34.51 tax per night, not $3.50. That would make the price $272.51 per night. Might not be a bargain -- especially booking this early. What are the cancellation fees? You might want to take a look at the website for Sheraton (check the support page links here above on the forum) and see if you might qualify for any special rates --- any seniors in the group?

Won NH Hamburg Altona on first bid of $63. Had always won the Renaissance in previous stays. This one is a bit further out of town, but since we will be there with our car, not such a problem. This seems to be the hotel everyone is now winning in Hamburg. Not exactly central, but NH chain is usually very good. One night 9/3-9/4 ... $63 Taxes etc. ... $12.69 TOTAL ... $ 75.69 Best non-cancellable rate for this stay on NH's website is €119 ($154). Standard Rate would be €129 ($167) In Germany the listed rates are usually always including all taxes. Used the PRICELINE link above, naturally! Addenda: Just a "heads-up" -- I just discovered that this NH (and most others) offer a special for those 60 (and better!!) of age, on weekends. The same room would only have been €60 ($78 total), cancellable and only to be paid at the end of stay (SIGH)

I have had great luck with the purchase of Skyauction certificates for Timeshare use. If you are very flexible as to dates, you can enjoy (sometimes) excellent 4* Timeshare resorts for approx. $225 - $250 all-inclusive per week for the apt., not per person. A couple of times a year Skyauction runs a "Blowout Sale" where you can purchase the certs. without bidding for them. They are usually at a flatrate of (now) $229 (+ $20 service charge) for an entire week. If you want to bid for them instead of waiting for the sales, be very aware that they have an additional $295 + $20 service fee per "won" week (the $20 fee remains the same whether you buy one week or several). The Blowout Sale certs. are generally valid for 12 - 18 months, and we usually keep one or two available for the times we need something last-minute. Outside of school vacation times, you can almost always find availability in Orlando, and very often for Ft. Lauderdale and several other Florida cities. If you are careful which resort you choose (some excellent ones are Wyndham Resorts), the price of the week is a fantastic bargain. Less positive than Florida, were some of our chosen resorts in Spain. Many of these were built in the 80s and have NOT been kept up properly.
