Most definitely I want your PL-UK wins. Sometimes PL-UK runs promotions (as does PL-HK) that make it worthwhile to use PL-UK instead of PL-US for the duration of a promotion. Those of us with UK relatives who have UK credit cards can benefit from such ;-)

My spreadsheet is indicating 855 nights since October 2001. About 5% was on Hotwire, the rest was NYOP on Priceline. Total spent is $35,436, making the average cost $41.45 per night. Most nights are in the San Francisco area. The low average is attributed to ridiculously-low rates some 2-3 years ago, when for many months PL had a fantastic promotion.

Add to that the mystery of how can taxes+fees at SFO be only $13.43, when SFO imposes a $13.50 airport transit fee per rental? I rented a car last weekend and the Alamo contract clearly showed this $13.50 fee as included in the prepaid package, although Priceline did not charge me that. So it looks like Priceline pick a random number for taxes/fees... causing them a loss...!

First I used Extend Your Stay ($34) which was rejected. Then I rebid at $1 increments until accepted at $37. The La Quinta has pretty standard rates and their website is showing availability for these dates, so I wonder if they've forgotten to enter rates for Priceline into Worldspan or something. I hope LQ and Holiday Inn come back because this Travelodge is really the pits. And why don't we see BW Grosvenor, Hilton Garden Inn, Larkspur Landing anymore?

Priceline's contract indicates that the total shown below includes all taxes and fees. This itinerary priced at just under $50 on Hotwire. It is half off the alamo.com rate of $78. First time Priceline offers me a significant discount on a car rental. Usually the difference between Priceline and published rates is too small to justify getting into a non-cancellable reservation. You do not have to pay for parking at the Hyatt SFO if you're willing to walk 3 minutes further to your car. Simply park on the street one block north of the hotel, across from the Shell gas station. Its all business offices there so if you arrive after work hours you will find plenty of parking.

Although this will not deter me from staying here in the future, I thought I'd mention that this hotel allows pets, and last night I found a tick sucking off my arm while I was lying on the bed. The previous guest may have had a dog in the room. I promptly packed up and got moved to another room with apologies. This was the only incident of this kind in five years that I've been staying here. I should also note that no renovation or significant repairs have been done in all these years. I remember that on my first stay back in 2001 I was delighted to find a guest laundry room with three washers and three dryers, two sets of which were brand new. Now the two older machines are out of order and those that were new are in bad shape. The facility is not kept too clean. As for the rooms, in some the windows won't stay open or won't close completely. Some are missing the bug net. Some toilets run, some sink drain caps won't stay open enough to allow free water outflow. The hotel appears to be doing good business, often full, so I hope they soon put some money back into the property in the way of maintenance and renewal.

This must be a new Priceline participant, I don't recall ever seeing it reported here as a win. Please post a review here following your stay. I know parking and Internet are free, but that's all I know. Does it deserve a 3* rating? The hotel sits right on the freeway. No amount of insulation can completely soundproof a room that's 50 feet from highway traffic. I strongly recommend begging for a room facing the Holiday Inn.

Contact the hotel to see if they're open for business. If they are, then it is considered by them and by the local authorities to be safe, and Priceline will not allow you to rescind your purchase. If the hotel is closed, Priceline will refund your money. They've done so when I was hurricaned out of Key West. Priceline called the hotel, and once told that the hotel was closing, they cancelled and refunded my bid with no argument at all.
