  1. Could it be the references to the Government rate?? Or to the senior rate? Maybe she thinks you should only compare to best publicly available rate? I'm at a loss!!! PS - I'm a gov't e/ee myself, so I always consider how well I can do on PL for a nonrefundable room v. the gov't refundable rate!
  2. That is just gross. I'm sure the hotel would have given you new bedding had you asked. I've had that happen to me at a hotel before and within 30 minutes, they sent up housekeeping w/ brand new bedding and credited my account for one-half my stay (This was at a Holiday Inn in Hickory, NC)
  3. 7/22/05: First bid 3* for G-boro - $40 - rejected; added free rebid G-boro East - $45 - rejected; added free rebid G-boro West for $49 - rejected. Incidentally - all of these I got the you are bidding too low message. 7/28/05 First bid 3* G-Boro - $42 - rejected; added free reibd G-boro East - $47; added free rebid - G-boro West for $52 - rejected; added GSO - which has a three star, but I did not want this area, so it was a risck, but I don't think a 3 star in GSO has been reported - anyway - went to $54 and still rejected. Also got you are bidding too low message. Closed browser, began a new bid for 2.5* Bid $37 for G-boro (got too low message); added G-West which I knew had a 2.5* and was fine too - $42 (no message re: too low) - accepted for Amerisuites of Greensboro, 1619 Stanley Way. Your Offer Price: $42.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $42.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $12.93 Total Charges: $54.93 I'm very, very, very pleased - apparently this is the week of Market America and many hotels are booked. I'm a Gov't E/ee on Gov't Business and I could not find a Gov't rate lower than 69.99 at Comfort Inn (our reimbursement is only $59+ tax) I've called and looked all over the Internet and could not beat that rate. Amerisuites.com is showing $129 for AAA for this same night. Best Available Rate w/o any program is $139 - so I got a great deal! :)
  4. Thought I'd add - that $10/day was with National in MCO last year. I will definitely ask when we go to MCO again this year on PL bid w/ Avis.
  5. Yes - I want to say it is $10/day. We used PL for our MCO trip last year - $15/compact. This year, we got $15 for a Standard, which is two classes higher. But just one of us will drive....
  6. We've used them 4-5 times now and have been pleased with the value (always bought at 50 or 60% off). Only once were we totally displeased with the restaurant and would not return. Read the restrictions CAREFULLY and checking out the menus is an excellant tip as posted above. I also would only be inclined to buy when I have a discount of 50 to 60% off. If you get on their email list, those coupons come about once a month or so. :)
  7. 7/13 - Bid $12 for compact and $13 for standard. Rejected. 7/14 - DH bid $13 compact - rejected; $14 standard - rejected. $15 - Mid Size - ACCEPTED for AVIS. Total price for 9 days = $194.03 or $21/day including all taxes and fees and MCO has a lot of fees/taxes for rentals. (Incidentally - Hotwire.com showed $14.95 for a compact; $15.95 for standard and $16.95 for mid-size for our dates.) Avis website shows $401 for total price for "Full Size - 2 door" for our dates and with various mousesavers codes $344. Can you please change my Subject line?
  8. Fantastic!! I can't wait til this idea is expanded to other metros!! I love the ideas of the star level overlays. Or maybe at least when you roll over the green points, it could give you the star level on PL? I think actually that could prove very useful, and may? be easier to impliment? Then, one could decide which star levels to bid? I'll echo earlier sentiments - TOBB does not stand a chance!
  9. We've done pretty well for a rental in MCO - we don't have vast experience, but last year we rented a Compact at a $15 dollar/day bid for a one week rental. Total price $148.43. Averaged $21/day, including all taxes fees of which there are a lot. We compared it to going deals at the time and it it came out good. I think we got National which was right on site and worked out fine. I've seen people get bids even lower for compacts too. The only catch is that if we both wanted to be able to drive the car, it would be another $10/per day. I don't think traditional bookings charge that much for an extra driver.
  10. I'm definitely hooked on PL and HW - especially HW DTD deals!! Hello - hotel room for $10.95 for two nights! See my Hotwire Double the Difference!! thread :D I got my DH hooked on couponing/shopping too! :) :) One of our local Harris Teeter's had TRIPLE coupons up to 99 cents for about the last 6-9 months no lie. We went about twice a month and racked up! We'd get tons of stuff free and we had a rule, if it cost more than $1 and it wasn't something we were in dire need of, we didn't buy it. I have a pantry & freeze FULL of foods, bbq sauce, condiments, etc. We went last week, and now it's only double up to 99 cents and we were ticked!! :) So now won't go as much! Hmmph! Love Kroger double dollar coupons too! :o
  11. That's the thing - I think it's one of these four hotels, but I'm not sure which one!! I suppose its a moot point though, as DH says he cannot get off work now to make the trip! :)
  12. Dates 6/24 to 6/26/05. 3 star - breakfast, pool, fitness, kitchenette, high speed, business & laundry at $169/nt. Seems it would be a "suite" type hotel b/c of the kitchenette. I've located 4 in the MB West zone. Staybridge Suites, Country Inn, Comfort Suites MB and Comfort Suites Conway. None of these appear on vacation package except Comfort Suites Conway which is a 2.5*- breakfast, pool, fitness, laundry. And when I do the regular search, I get a 2.5* in that zone w/ pool, fitness & laundry for $101. I'm trying to get a double the difference deal: here's the hotels and their best prices I can find. 1.Staybridge Suites - $79/nt (Orbitz.com)- DTD net cost: $16.00 (has all listed amenities) 2. Country Inn & Suites - $139/nt - DTD net cost $256.00 ( This doesn't seem like a national chain, so it would surprise me and I cannot locate that they have laundry facilities.) 3. Comfort Suites MB $89/nt - DTD net cost $56.00 (has all but fitness & high speed.) 4. Comfort Suites Conway - $99/nt DT net cost $96.00 (I think this is the 2.5 star coming up and has all but fitness & high speed.) Please help! What do you think it could be?
  13. Purchased a new Entertainment Book myself using the link!
  14. Travelaxe! That's it! Are there any that don't have to be downloaded/installed?
  15. I think I had found out about it from here - you downloaded the interface, could enter dates/place and it would search MULTIPLE websites for your dates to find the best rates. Now, I can't remember it in my old age! :)
  16. Hey! Sounds like you got a counter-offer! For future reference, it usually takes about 50% of the counter-offer to get it. So, probably $7 would have done it! You got an excellant deal though - just may have saved a little bit more! :) Nice hotel in a great location! I stayed their last fall! Check out Barley's Taproom! Great food! Loved the beefalo burger there!
  17. Do you get credit just for clicks to those sites, or only for actual "purchases."? Would that include reservations for a later stay/purchase? i.e., for work, I've been traveling / making travel arrangements for myself quite a bit lately - if I use the BB link to go to marriott.com and make a confirmed reservation, later stay & pay, will that get you credit?
  18. I'm very interested in your win since we are planning a trip there in late April. I've never seen anything come up for that area. (Actually, we are going this weekend, but staying at a B&B in Manteo area - I've got to go on business in late April, and I think we'll make another 3 day weekend out of it.) I believe this is your property: Kill Devil Hills--Days Inn - Oceanfront/Nags Head Beach, 201 N Virginia Dare Trail * Hwy 12 & Ocean Bay Blvd, Kill Devil Hills, NC 27948, US Phone: 252-441-7211 You will be happy to know that while I have not stayed at this particular one, this is a five Sunburst Days Inn. Days Inn website In my experience, Days Inn pretty accurately self-monitors its properties and assigns these Sunburst ratings on a 1-5 scale. Some actually get no Sunbursts. Anything less than 4, and I'd stay away. Also, tripadvisor.com rates it pretty well. Tripadvisor As for the price, you probably about "broke-even." The web rate is $49/nt for your stay. I figure with taxes that's about $54 or so.
  19. I may be asking "too much" here - but do you think you can get a rebate when you've made a successful double the difference claim and your net cost is less than $30? :)
  20. Hyatt Regency in Miami - $27 bid - $33 with taxes - rates regularly over $200 a night. Decent hotel great location for a pre-cruise stay. Even better, it was our honeymoon, AND the guy at the front desk was from our town, because of those two factors, he upgraded us to the Regency floor with a corner suite! :)
  21. Received the email confirming my $480.00 refund this morning. Should be credited to my card within 10 days. ********************* Thank you for your message regarding the Hotwire Hotel Low Price Guarantee for your reservation at the Hilton Raleigh/Durham Research Triangle Park, Hotwire Itinerary Number ************. You are entitled to a refund of $480.00. We will issue a credit to the card used for your Hotwire purchase within 10 business days. *********************
  22. The Sheraton in Downtown Raleigh also used to work well. It was the only 3 star hotel in the Downtown zone. However, now there is also a 2.5*, which I believe is the Clarion. AND, the Hotwire rates have been more reasonable lately, making DTD nonexistent. Last summer, we booked the Sheraton on HW on June 25, 2004 - Hotwire - $149/nt Sheraton.com - $69/nt. Total Hotwire price - $338.95 Total refund $320.00 Net cost $18.95 for two nights. Immediately submitted DTD guarantee request. Same day, got email notifying me of refund.
  23. Is there already a thread that keeps track of good DTD deals? I just wanted to share mine! I've had another one for the Sheraton in Downtown Raleigh - July 4th weekend 2004. I'll have to look up the details and post them.
