Aver
I have been bidding for sometime on a couple of hotels in the Portland area, one I have used a couple times, but now it seems that I am really having to increase my bid for it and it is still not taking. Three thoughts; 1. Is it possible that because it is summer that the price usually increases? 2. Because I only want one night and not two is this another possibility of rejected bids? 3. Can anyone tell me if they have tested to see if it is easier to obtain a bid by myself booking one night and allowing my guest to try to book their own as I am looking for 1 night (2 rooms)? One other comment, I noticed when looking up the hotel on priceline home page and putting in my date(1 night) thatit doesn't show up, but when I switch it to two nights it appears on the home page. Any suggestions would be appreciated.ThankyouAver Link to comment

AinA
The Rose Festival is going on in Portland from 30 May - 08 June, that could be the potential problem. Hopefully the OP will let us know so we might be able to help. Link to comment
Aver
My date is one night on July 8. I see now that their is no avail. at fairfield river place and I would like to get possibly doubletree or another fairfield or marriott. I have bid up to $50+ and still no hit. Looking on HOTWIRE but not sure what is showing up. A pool (preferably outdoor) would be nice for our kids with us! Looking for 2 rooms Thanks Link to comment
Aver
Well, I tried again and got what I didn't want :) Yes, I used the PRICELINE link here. Got the red lion conv. center $55. Wanted either the fairfield residence or doubletree (wanted the pools for the kids). Now got nothing here!! When I went to the red lion, I thought it was a picture of the outdoor pool lit up, but it was a lit up parking lot. What a drag---in July. Link to comment
thereuare
Sorry to hear you didn't receive a property with a pool like you were hoping for. As often noted on the board, if you need a specific amenity, HOTWIRE can often be a better option. You may want to give the hotel a call to see if there are any pool options nearby (such as a YMCA or Boys/Girls Club) where you may be able to get a day/trial pass and use the pool... or if they own another property nearby they may let you use it.Thanks for sharing your win with the board and for using our PRICELINE link to begin your bidding.Enjoy your stay. AinA
I wonder why it went so high? There could be a convention around that time. Midweek is traditionally harder to get deals on vs. weekends. You were bidding pretty early still yet. Sorry about the pool. If it is any consolation I highly doubt it will be terribly hot July 8th, now August 8 is a different story. :) I think in your case HOTWIRE would have been useful. I've never in the past found I paid more when I was looking for two rooms. Also, the single night is probably not a problem either. Link to comment
Colfax
Aver,Sorry you didn't win a hotel with a pool. If it's a hot day the fountain in Jamison Square is a nearby alternative, and something unique to Portland. The little kids love splashing around in the fountain and the adults can mingle and meet some Portland locals while they watch. It's in the Pearl Disctrict, about 10-15 minutes from the Red Lion via MAX light rail, then a transfer to the Portland streetcar. Since the Red Lion is inside Fareless Square the train and streetcar rides are free. Here's are a couple pics of the fountain and the kids getting wet:Jamison SquareJamison Square #2Enjoy your stay!
