powerplantop
OK I will be working a contract in Astoria so I need a hotel in the LGA area will have a rental car so a short drive is not a problem. But will need to park the car. One person in the room. I have bid $85 any ideas? Split week, ect. Link to comment
thereuare
What star rating did you bid for at $85 above? How important is price vs. not having to change hotels? If you split the bid, how many times are you willing to do so? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
powerplantop
I bid for a 3 star, I would be willing to change hotels twice.I would be willing to stay in Elmhurst - Corona, Flushing - Whitestone or La Guardia Airport zones. I would be willing to drop down my star level but I don't want a dump with high priced parking. Currently at the Extended Stay America in whitestone for $109 per night with free parking and high speed internet. But I would like to stay some place nicer and don't mind paying a few extra dollars to do so. Link to comment
thereuare
There are no 3* hotels in Elmhurst - Corona or Flushing - Whitestone so if you want to stick with 3* bidding you're essentially only bidding the LGA Airport area. This is how i would proceed, assuming a $100 maximum bid based upon your description above (and this may take awhile so assuming you have some time too :) )...At the 3* level you have three re-bid zones.Select 3* LGA...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $100.Use the above for 5/9-5/20, then for the following date combinations:5/10-5/205/11-5/205/12-5/205/13-5/205/14-5/205/10-5/195/10-5/185/10-5/175/10-5/165/10-5/15If the above is rejected we can then look towards 2.5* properties if you wanted. dahammer
This is a tough call....I'm not a big fan of Extended Stay America properties (I have a problem paying $1.00 for a small packet of ground coffee, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. from a vending machine. The unattended lobby from 11 PM to 7 AM is another issue as well). However, this may be the right call as you won't have the hassle of checking in and out and figuring which dates Priceline will accept bids. The 3* LGA properties reported include the Marriott and Crowne Plaza, you will have to pay for parking and High Speed Internet, this should add $20 per day to your costs. The 2.5* properties include the Wyndham Garden (parking fee and HS fee), Courtyard (parking fee), however, the CY is difficult to get with PL. The 2.5* Ramada (free parking and WiFi) has also been reported and is a decent property and is within walking distance to Shea Stadium. The only stinker in the bunch is the Clarion and this may be either 2.5* or 2*. The other zones, Elmhurst-Corona, Long Island City, Whitestone have not had any reported wins, so you could end up in a 2* or 2.5* dump and pay for parking :) I used EasyClickTravel to check some dates and the Holiday Inn Express in Long Island City is available for $131. So if you don't mind small rooms, tiny bathrooms, a great deal of road noise since the hotel fronts the LIE, all available parking spaces claimed by 6:00 PM, no dining options within walking distance, this is the place. :) But, they do have great cinnamon buns in the morning :o Link to comment
powerplantop
Ok Guys thanks for the help, I will try again after the 24 hour clock runs out and let everyone know what happened. For short stays extended stay properties are usually not the best choice. It is not unusual for me to show up with coffee, food, shampoo, ect. But I am not normal. They do have big fridges so I can keep lots of beer cold. The Clarion makes me nervous about dropping my star rating. From the outside it looks like a dump. On one hand I would like to stay at the Holiday Inn Express and its not a bad rate. I could get points to help maintain my status but the parking issue kills it for me. Then having to drive to the end of Steinway on top of that! Link to comment
dahammer
The Clarion makes me nervous about dropping my star rating. From the outside it looks like a dump. its not much better on the inside.... :) it has a very bizzare layout, one wing is built on a slope and the hallway matches the grade of the slope with rooms on each side of the hallway, if you let go of your luggage cart, it wouldn't stop 'till it hit the end of the hall! I could not imagine staying here for more than one day.....unless of course the room had a big fridge to keep lots of beer cold :) That rate on the Holiday Inn Express was through EasyClickTravel Travel, it was listed as a 2* "Off The Record". The property is adjacent to a residential area, so if you don't get a spot in the lot, you will have to circle the block a couple of times and park on the street. Save up your per diem meal $$ and splurge on a dinner at The Water's Edge on the East River in Long Island City, with great views of NYC. If you end up near Corona, Flushing Meadows, LGA, you will have an great variety of dining options in one of the most ethnically diverse Boroughs: Queens. Link to comment

It was suposed to only be 10 days, but when doing contract work whatever. The variety of dining options is stagering. In the last few days we have had Korean in Flushing, Italian in Astoria, Filipino in Woodside http://www.lourdess.com and Brazilian in Astoria. We may do Greek for lunch tomorrow before I go home for the weekend. Well my 24 hours is almost up. Will post what happens. Link to comment

powerplantop
After a few bids I bid $120 for a 2.5 star in the LGA area. I won the Ramada Plaza La Guardia Airport. All that I need to do now is decide what to do until the 27th. (I have a reservation for the Sheraton in Flushing stating the 27th). Link to comment
