I booked this room for my sister, she has a very early flight from ATL tomorrow morning. Happily, my sister reports that the hotel has been renovated, and she sent photos of the room, too. Very nice clean comfortable room, big new TV, free internet, free parking, free breakfast (although she will leave to early to enjoy that perk) Usually, I try to book rooms in ATL south, but the ATL north area seems to have some great deals, such as the Red Lion.

I used the Better Bidding PRICELINE link, but failed to report my winning bid last month. After going into the hotel and hearing the rates quoted, I drove to a nearby McDonalds to use the wifi, and proceeded to make a series of bids. Mercifully, I was able to secure two rooms for about the same price as the a more expensive suite. Hooray, I got Mother-in-law her own room - we did not have to share. :) Hotel is excellent, every room has a nice waterfront view, great breakfast, free guest laundry, free parking. Hello again :) A friend is being sent Las Vegas for a work assignment until mid-December, starting Tuesday, August 10, 2010. His per diem expense budget is $100 a day for food and lodging. He booked Hooters for $30 for the first 3 nights, but wants to try Priceline for portions of his time. I am certain that he will want to upgrade from Hooters. Any advice? Are certain time-frames going to be difficult due to events, conventions, etc? Since weekends tend to be more expensive, I thought he might try Sunday to Thursday for nicer hotels in town, then spend weekends further from the strip or downtown. We need to factor extra fees into the mix such as: parking, internet, resort fees, etc. Probably $60 or less per night will be the goal for most hotel stays, with occasional splurges. I am going to discuss options tomorrow. Any advice is greatly appreciated, and we will use your PRICELINE links! Thanks :)

I stayed at this Hotel once on a PRICELINE bid, and was refused a non-smoking room! The Hotel itself was beautiful, and the area is scenic - just not close to Downtown SD. If I ever need to stay in Downtown SD again, I will avoid PRICELINE because the downtown zone includes Harbor Island. I hope that you enjoy your stay :)

My guess is that the HOTWIRE 3 star Santa Rosa Hotel for Labor Day weekend might be the Holiday Inn Express, or some other moderately priced motel that offers a free continental breakfast. That said, if your 3.5 and 3 star bidding does not work, you might consider PRICELINE 2.5 or even 2 star hotels for this particular weekend. Either that, or keep bidding up to the day of arrival if you can wait. Good Luck :)

Thanks for your reply. I am a bit leery of this particular hotel, based on the tripadvisor reviews of the Crowne Plaza Ventura Beach. Love the location, although there are many homeless folks in that tourist area. If it was just for me, I would probably give it a try. But, the booking is for a very difficult family member. My sister thinks we should put the relatives up in the Embassy Suites Mandalay Bay I will have to discuss our options with the family, and will report back if I book the HOTWIRE option. Just wanted to report that the Palm Springs Riviera Resort was a very nice hotel with friendly staff, excellent rooms and beautiful pool area. We hope to return soon! Be aware of a $19.00 per day Resort Fee, and Valet Parking only.
