  1. Bid unsuccessfully up $125 for 4* in Napa Downtown North, then switched to $144 Express Deal which showed only restaurant and Customer satisfaction of 8+. Used a 5% off coupon code (READYSET5) which was only good on PRICELINE EXPRESS Deals. On regular Priceline and on hotel's web site, prices start at $259. Downside is that on Express Deal we can't choose a King bed and River Side. This is the hotel I was hoping for for our anniversary trip, was just hoping to be able to get it for around $100 as the last few Priceline posters (and one Hotwire poster) did. Still, very happy with this last-minute purchase. River Terrace Inn A Noble House Hotel 4 star Napa Downtown North 1600 Soscol Avenue Napa, CA 94558 Check-In: Sat, Jun 1, 2013 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out: Mon, Jun 3, 2013 / 11:00 AM Rooms: 1 room / 2 nights Nights: 2 Room Subtotal: $288.00 Taxes & Fees: $52.18 Priceline Hotel Coupon: -$14.40 Congratulations! Your 5% coupon applied! Total Charged to Card: $325.78 Used the PRICELINE link.
  2. I think you need to post the dates of your stay for the moderators to help you.
  3. So, the Sheraton Four Points is back down to a 3* (deservedly, IMHO). Used the HOTWIRE link, booking 1 day in advance. $109/night; total with taxes & fees $377.45. (On Sheraton website would have been $156/$523 non-refundable, $180/$603 flexible AAA. These are higher than their usual Thurs-Sun rates, I'm guessing either because of Mill Valley Film Festival or just because I'm booking at the last minute.) Amenities visible in black font: Fitness Center, Laundry Facilities (self-service), High-Speed Internet Access Amenities visible in rust font: Free Parking, Free Internet Amenities visible by clicking on "see all": Fitness Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Accessible for the blind Accessible for the deaf Free Parking Free Internet Accessible path of travel In-room accessibility Wheelchair accessible Accessible bathroom Handicapped parking Roll-in shower Checkmarked as "Best Value". I swear it also said "recommended in 90% of Hotwire customer reviews", but now 15 minutes later it says "We are still gathering reviews for this property". As a side note: this is the first time I've seen the handy-dandy menu here that automatically creates the subject lines. Awesome, that makes it so much easier to post here. Thanks!
  4. Amenities matched Sheraton's, no surprise when that's what came up. Check-in date: Sat, Nov 26, 2011 Check-out date: Tue, Nov 29, 2011 Adults/Children: 2 / 0 Number of rooms: 1 ***** AMENITIES ***** Smoke Free Rooms Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities (self-service) High-Speed Internet Access Rate per night:$86.00 Nights: 3 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $48.29 (=18.7%) Subtotal: $306.29 Sheraton is getting pretty chintzy with their Hotwire discount...prepaid rooms on Sheraton's own site were $102.33 + 15.35 tax (15%) would have equaled $353.04. Less than 50 bucks savings for 3 nights. Hotwire showed "Recommended in 95 % of Hotwire customer reviews", which seemed strange given low ratings on Tripadvisor. Just checked in and my first impression is somewhere in between...looks clean and comfortable, nicely decorated, but a bit shabby and smelly (cooking odors on one floor, heavy scent on another). Bell desk didn't offer to help with my bags as I walked by with two of them, but a friendly cleaning guy did. Front desk cheerfully changed from 2 doubles to a king when I requested after seeing the 1st room (either exceptionally nice service from them if they didn't hear me request the king in the first place, or exceptionally poor service if they heard it and purposely ignored it when 1 was available). Free wireless internet. Impossible to find in the dark unless you know to turn into Staybridge Suites' driveway. Noisy heat/AC. Windows might open but didn't dare try, looked like an emergency open system that might have tossed the whole window to the ground.
  5. As expected 3.5* was the San Rafael Four Points (Sheraton) Relevant side note: I first bid (unsuccessfully) up to $70 on 3* Priceline in San Rafael-Larkspur, which is the category for this Four Points. Irrelevant side note: I also bid (unsuccessfully) up to $70 on 2.5* Priceline in Sausalito-Mill Valley, just because it would have been so cool to be the first person EVER to report a win in Sausalito-Mill Valley. What Hotwire showed: A. On the search results page where multiple (anonymous) hotels were shown, this was listed for the 3* $89 hotel that turned out to be Four Points: No smoking, fitness center, pool, restaurant, laundry, high-speed internet (same with "See all"). Recommended in 85% of Hotwire customer reviews, Best value (but everything was marked best value) Shown after clicking on the $89 choice (but before purchasing): 85% of Hotwire reviews recommend 300+ total reviews 4 Overall satisfaction 4 Condition of hotel 4 Quality of service 4 Room comfort 4 Room cleanliness 4 Location of hotel Scale: 1 - very dissatisfied, 5 - very satisfied Customer rating on TripAdvisor 3.5 out of 5.0 What is TripAdvisor? I used the HOTWIRE link. (I tried to use the PRICELINE link too, may have gotten mixed up due to trying to use my bonus money.) And by the way, I've stayed here before, very unmemorable hotel but I'm pretty sure I remember it not deserving more than 3*. And at least one elevator wasn't working.
  6. Got on first bid, bidding same day as arrival. Not sure why this deserves 4 stars, but it's OK and parking is free. Non-smoking hotel, Yay! AAA rate is $80+tax, so not saving much. Should have researched more before bidding, but wasn't worth the trouble for just one night. Room Subtotal: $60.00 Taxes & Fees: $15.77 Total Charged to Card: $75.77 Used the link. At least I hope it "took", after using the li8nk I hopped around the Priceline site a lot before bidding.
  7. Thought this sounded intriguing, dug around a little and found that the Atlantis Motor Lodge was razed November 2010. http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/Atlan..._106867224.html
  8. Surprise! After almost 2 years of all reported 3* Hotwires in Long Beach being Holiday Inn Airport, this one is the Holiday Inn Downtown. Downtown is a cheaper hotel but cost the same on Hotwire as what people have been reporting for the Airport one. C'est le vie. Rate per night:$56.00 Nights: 4 Rooms: 1 Tax recovery charges & fees: $37.12 Subtotal: $261.12 Trip total:$261.12 Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access Within walking distance of a 24-hour restaurant. Hotel didn't charge for parking. So far it's a clean pleasant hotel but with the LOUDEST heater I've ever heard! I'm wishing I'd brought an electric blanket because there's no way I can sleep with this heater on.
  9. Thanks, this may be very helpful for me. Do you happen to remember whether the listing showed "Recommended in X% of Hotwire customer reviews" and if, so, what the number X was? Thanks!
  10. Won at first bid, so no telling how much overbid, can't find much history for Novato. Hotwire had a 3* in Novato for $99 and a 2* for $60, so with one day to go and no free rebids (and only wanting Novato) I just tried splitting the difference and bidding $80, and it worked. Price on Marriott web site was $129, no AAA discount available. Courtyard By Marriott Novato Marin Sonoma Novato 1400 N. Hamilton Pkwy Novato, California 94949 415-883-8950 Check-In Date: Wed, Nov 11, 2009 / After 04:00 PM Check-Out Date: Thu, Nov 12, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $80.00 Subtotal: $80.00 Taxes & Fees: $17.19 Total Charges*: $97.19 I used the BetterBidding PRICELINE link.
  11. So here's a new one for you: Hilton Anatole. Who would have thought they'd be 4* on Priceline when Hotwire only gives them 3 1/2? Rated well on Tripadvisor and sounds a lot safer than many others in the area, but per Tripadvisor and Expedia, hotel charges $15 for parking, which just isn't done in Dallas. Even the hotels a mile from DFW don't charge for parking (and neither does the Renaissance I was aiming for). Glad I got this because it adds knowledge to the forum, and because someone looking for a long, carless vacation in a huge resort may be thrilled with it. Me, I just wanted a safe place to stay overnight, and it sounds like I got one. Oh, and this $80 bid was accepted 1 day after $70 was rejected. Hilton Anatole 4 Star Market Center - Dal Love Field 2201 Stemmons Freeway Dallas, Texas 75207 214-748-1200 Check-In Date: Wed, Nov 19, 2008 / After 04:00 PM Check-Out Date: Thu, Nov 20, 2008 / 12:00 PM Amenities: Remote control TV w/ premium channels Telephone w/ voicemail Radio Alarm Clock Iron and ironing board Hairdryer Business services 24 hour front desk Full Service Restaurant Room service Bellman Concierge Fitness center access Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $80.00 Subtotal: $80.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $19.64 Total Charges*: $99.64 I used the PRICELINE link.
  12. NoOfRooms:1 room , NoOfNights:4 nights HotelName:The Westin Dallas Fort Worth Airport 4545 West John Carpenter Freeway Irving, Texas 75063 (972) 929-4500 Check-in date CheckInDate:Thu, Nov 20, 2008 Check-out date CheckOutDate:Mon, Nov 24, 2008 NoOfAdults:2/ NoOfChildren:0 PricePerNight:$59.00 Nights:4 Rooms:1 Subtotal:$236.00 Tax recovery charges and fees:$42.09 Total price:$278.09 Amenity icons shown: Airport Shuttle Fitness Center Pool(s) Restaurant(s) Business Center Laundry Facilities High-speed Internet Access "Customer Favorite" in inconspicuous gray on lower right corner of listing. Things to note: 1. Hotwire showed TripAdvisor rating of 4.5 with "over 60 reviews". They didn't show it on the search results page as they used to do, only after you clicked "continue" next to the $59 listing. 2. Price shot up dramatically (to $109/night) if Wednesday night stay was included, rather than starting Thursday night. 3. I've been to this hotel and they have free, unrestricted parking. And the other known 4-star hotel I risked getting, the Hyatt Regency (which is inside the airport), says on its website that it has free parking, restricted of course to actual guests. So even if you do get the Hyatt Regency, you can still rent a car and get around, even with some inconvenience (and I think maybe a toll) getting in and out of the airport. I used the HOTWIRE link. Thanks! May I suggest Dallas as a future candidate for the lovely city-map feature?
  13. Check-In Date: Wednesday, October 8, 2008 Check-Out Date: Sunday, October 12, 2008 Hotel Name: Four Points By Sheraton San Rafael 1010 Northgate Drive San Rafael, California 94903 415-479-8800 Your Offer Price: $75.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Subtotal: $300.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $46.17 Total Charges*: $346.17 POSSIBLE OVERBID ALERT: My memory is quite certain that I unsuccessfully bid up to $69 (for the same dates, stars, and location) a few days ago, but my Priceline emails only indicate that I bid up to $50, so I'm not positive. You've got a free rebid in Novato, so I don't recommend starting as high as $75. Rates on Sheraton 4 Points website are: $105 AARP $108 prepaid non-refundable $138 AAA (or $99 AAA rate if you choose "Promotions and Packages" instead of "Automobile Association") $145 regular "best rate" $250 if you don't check around for anything better. Kinda disappointed that my offer was accepted. I knew that if it was accepted, it would probably be this low-rated Four Points which is the only known result at Priceline. But my next step when Priceline rejected this offer was going to be to pay $86 for the 3-star on Hotwire which, although it would probably still be the Four Points, had historical precedent for being the Embassy Suites instead. I figured if it did turn out to be the Embassy Suites, I'd be doing the forum a favor by discovering whether this Embassy Suites was still using Hotwire (it's been over a year since anyone reported it) and whether they'd added "High Speed Internet" to their icons and hence were now indistinguishable from 4 Points. Plus I'd get a much yummier hotel. But I chickened out on taking the Hotwire offer before one last try on Priceline at a lower price, and I got the Priceline one. Anyway, since I travel to that area regularly, I'll be glad to finally see for myself what the 4 Points is like, with all its conflicting ratings on various sites. I used the PRICELINE link.
  14. Got it on first try for 2.5*, so assume a large over-bid. Had gone up to $88 for 3* without success. Residence Inn Longmont 2
  15. Check-In Date: Thursday, November 15, 2007 Check-Out Date: Monday, November 19, 2007 Hotel Name: Hilton Dfw Lakes Executive Conference Center 1800 Highway 26 East Grapevine, Texas 76051-9641 817-481-8444 Your Offer Price: $80.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 4 Subtotal: $320.00 Taxes and Service Fees: $57.33 Total Charges*: $377.33 $60 had been rejected for 4* in this zone, and I was in a hurry and didn't bother going up in small increments but went straight to 80, which was accepted. Up to $150 had been rejected last week for a stay starting 1 day earlier (when it turns out this hotel is sold out...not that I'd ever have bidded that high if I'd known this was now being considered a 4-star rather than a 3...it's approaching their regular rates). On this accepted bid I was offered the chance to extend my stay, which made me very happy, but after I worked through the screens it didn't accept moving my check-in 1 day earlier. Lovely-sounding hotel but I'm bummed because my conference is at the Westin. Oh well, those are the chances we take.
