AaronJB Posted April 10, 2010 Report Posted April 10, 2010 Not seeing this: No Smoking, Fitness Center, Restaurant, Business Center, High-Speed Internet, SPA 4* USE when searching for 2/2 or 2/0. If that was showing, it has not yet been ID'd/reported to the board, but my guess is that it might be the Westin St Francis with a new smoke-free icon. Again though, that hasn't been confirmed and I'm seeing a different 4* USE when searching for the dates mentioned above - both when I search for 2 adults/0 children and 2/2.Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases.

JeremyK Posted April 10, 2010 Author Report Posted April 10, 2010 Hotel in SOMAI am going to SF on a last minute trip and wanted to give Priceline or Hotwire a try. I have some Hotwire options to choose from but wanted to see what I could get out of Priceline. Can someone tell me what hotels I can expect to (but not guarantee to) get as well as recommend a bidding strategy. On Hotwire I think I am looking at the Hyatt for $144 a night. THink I can do better? Maybe score the IC or Westin? Thanks.

I started two topics since the original forum category said it was for SFO on Hotwire and didn't want to get people confused. Sorry if I caused any confusion with also trying to investigate Priceline simultaneously.
JeremyK Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 On Hotwire, I see a 4.5* in USE which I am pretty sure is the IC. On Monday night, 4/12, and Wed night, 4/14, the rate is around $144. Tuesday night it shows $252. Do you think there is any chance of that coming down in the next 24hrs or am I better to split my trip up and switch to the Marriott or other 4* hotel in the area (I'd prefer to not do that)? I don't want to spend more than $150 a night. And on Priceline, I have bid starting at $85 and went all the way up to $125 (adding in South SFO, San Bruno, Marina, Civic Center ect) for the same days for a 4* in SOMA with no success. Can anyone help with a bidding strategy there if Hotwire doesn't work out?
Colfax Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 Noone knows if rates will go up or down between now and 4/12.HOTWIRE and PRICELINE define USE differently. Hotwire's USE zone is a combination of Priceline's SOMA and USE zone, approximately. So far you've bid to $125 in Priceline's SOMA only. Is Priceline's USE zone also acceptable? If so you can start a new bid in USE (I'd suggest starting around $90), and bid up to $125 again.Hotwire also has a couple of 3.5* Downtown for less than $120.
JeremyK Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 USE is a bit far to walk for me. I tried that one week and I was beat after walking to work. If I start a new bid looking for a 4* starting in the Marina and then add SOMA, would that be considered a different bid? If so maybe that's why my bids weren't accepted since I kept trying to up the price by adding to a bid starting with the SOMA area.If that doesn't work, I might go ahead and try my luck with the 3.5* HOTWIRE. I just hope it isn't the CQ. ;-)
JeremyK Posted April 11, 2010 Author Report Posted April 11, 2010 Never mind. Just realized I can't bid on a 4* in the Marina as there is no 4*. I should think before I type :)
Colfax Posted April 11, 2010 Report Posted April 11, 2010 If 4* in SOMA is your only acceptable option then there's nothing you can do but bid higher there. Those 3.5* hotels I saw on Hotwire are downtown, but not in SOMA.In SOMA Orbitz has the Best Western Americana and Best Western Carriage Inn, both for $81. These aren't 4* hotels but both are managed by Joie de Vivre, have decent reviews, and have been renvoated in the last two years. If the SOMA Courtyard works, you could try bidding for SOMA 3* on Priceline. (Courtyard is the most likely outcome, if anything, but not guaranteed.)Your trip is tomorrow. Is this an optional trip? If you can't get a three day bid accepted today I'd work on getting your first night booked anyhow, so you know where you're going at the start.Good luck!
