howdog14 Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 I was bidding for a 3.5 star hotel in the Rye-White Plains section of Westchester for this past weekend. There were only three 3.5 star hotels, and all were about 1-2 miles from each other, so I didn't care where I stayed. I started at $65 and was rejected. I then added a 2.5 star to get a free re-bid, as there were no 2.5 star hotels in the Rye-White Plains area, and increased the bid to $70. Much to my dismay, I was "upgraded" involuntarily to a 3 star hotel (Residence Inn White Plains) - one that was about 7 miles from where I was hoping to stay. The hotel ended up being fine, but I wasn't aware that Priceline could/would do that? If that's the case, then the free re-bid becomes risky, doesn't it?Am I missing something?
dahammer Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Welcome! Please post a follow up to your previous Hotwire Nassau topic as this thread is still open. Also, can you please post your dates of travel for this Westchester stay? We can comment further about being upgraded. Thanks!

Gallus50 Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 If you drop down a level, you're not actually getting a free rebid. A free rebid would only be in the level at which you are bidding, in a area that does not have hotels AT THAT LEVEL. A bid can be upgraded at any time, on any bid. So even if there are no hotels at that lower level, it is not a real rebid. Others can comment further, but you should read the free rebids FAQ on this board. Sorry that happened though. I've made mistakes and it can be really upsetting....
dahammer Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Thanks for closing out the Nassau topic.I was bidding for a 3.5 star hotel in the Rye-White Plains section of Westchester for this past weekend. What hotel were you trying to target?
thereuare Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 When you select a star level on PRICELINE it is the minimum you are willing to accept... PRICELINE will always try to upgrade you to a higher rated hotel if one is available at the price you bid.Re-bidding is not really risky if done correctly. See this thread for the correct procedure to determine your re-bid zones: Priceline Re-Bidding ExplainedPlease post your win(s) as you receive them so that the information can best help other users, and please use the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your future travel purchases.
