wexcellent Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Hello All -We're looking to book a hotel in the Union Square area for 2 nights starting August 10th. We are a family of 5, so our choices seem to be book two rooms through Hotwire, or search based on 2 adults/2 children and hope to get a roll-away bed added to the room later. One thing I've thought of doing was - if the hotel can be identified - call before booking and ask if roll-away beds are permitted. Does that seem like a reasonable strategy? If not, any other suggestions? Thanks
Colfax Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Your strategy of trying to ID a hotel in advance, then calling prior to purchase to see they can accomodate a rollaway and if there are charges, makes sense. Not every hotel in Union Square can accomodate a rollaway, so it's good to know if you're looking at a hotel that will work with you.I'll warn in advance that USE and USW are zones where several 4* hotels use the same icons and sometimes it's not possible to uniquely ID a hotel from its icons. The best we can say is "It's either A or B".But if you see something interesting post the icons and someone will try to ID.How old are your children, more or less? Some options that will work for toddlers might not be good for older teenagers. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your purchases.
wexcellent Posted March 29, 2010 Author Report Posted March 29, 2010 My kids are pretty young - they will be 9, 7, and 4 at time of travel. If I see a candidate hotel, I will do as you suggest and post the icons hoping for a potential ID. Thanks!
Colfax Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 HOTWIRE only allows booking up to four per room. Some hotels will bring in a rollaway for a fifth and some won't. If you're flexible about fitting five into a room for four, you can probably do this on HOTWIRE (subject to the hotel's maximum occupancy rules, of course). Rates are somewhat high for your dates. Searching Hotwire on 2 adults/2 children I find:4.5* USE $1794* USE $1644* Embarcadero $2623.5* USE $204Are these in your general price range?
wexcellent Posted March 30, 2010 Author Report Posted March 30, 2010 Probably not the Embarcadero! The USE prices are more reasonable, although still high considering tax and potential parking fees.
