colinchrisc Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Hello,I am staying in San Diego in mid July and need help bidding for a 3* hotel for Downtown.Recently I've been bidding $80 for a 3* hotel in Downtown San Diego and have always been rejected. Is this a fare bid? Is it possible that the hotels are not listed on Priceline yet for July and maybe I'm bidding too early? :)
AaronJB Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Prices vary by dates; if these dates (which dates are you interested in?) are busier, they may be more expensive. It's not too early to bid for July - what would be your desired budget per night? Please use the site's HOTWIRE or PRICELINE links to start your purchases and searches.
colinchrisc Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 The exact dates are July 24 - July 27.I've been bidding $80 per night for 3* Downtown San Diego which I thought was reasonable since I saw many people getting 3* downtown for $60 - $70.Is my $80 bid too low? What should my strategy be? My thought is that I'm 100% sure I'm going to San Diego so I want to get a 3* hotel or better for the best price possible.
Colfax Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 The two 3* that come up most are Holiday Inn Downtown and Holiday Inn on the Bay.For your dates the HI-Downtown is $182 and HI-Bay is Sold Out.So PRICELINE may not have anything 3* now, or if they have the HI-Downtown it could be more than $80. $90 would be half price, which is very good. Would you bid higher than $80 for a 3*?Do you see anything in your price range on HOTWIRE?

colinchrisc Posted March 12, 2010 Author Report Posted March 12, 2010 It would be appreciated if you used the requested PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your future bidding and travel purchases.Thanks.ok will do. Also, no I did not find anything on HOTWIRE in my price range. All 3 star Downtown San Diego Hotels on HOTWIRE were $150 and above for my specific dates. I would gladly pay $90 for a 3* hotel in Downtown San Diego but even my $90 bid was rejected.
Colfax Posted March 12, 2010 Report Posted March 12, 2010 Your travel dates overlap with Comic Con 2010, historically one of the busiest hotel events of the year in San Diego, and the convention is headquartered Downtown.Comic Con is July 22-25. Your dates are July 24-27.I can't research rates now, but you might do better if you can drop July 24 or spend July 24 in some other zone than Downtown.
