I know this area fairly well and have a pretty good ideas of hotels around, but with that said, i would only recommend staying there if you have business or a reason to be in this area... is that the case or did you have something else in mind?

If you include the date(s) of your stay and your expected budget we can be of further assistnace.

We are staying in this area because our son lives there. I have researched some of the hotels/lodging: Marriott Brooklyn Bridge, Comfort Inn (Emmons), Days Inn. The Marriott is really too high. (250 a night).

I know that the Brooklyn Marriott has blackout dates for at least one wholesaler in the middle of the month, including the nite of the 14th, and then higher than usual rates thereafter... do you know of something happening in the area around this time (a college gradulation perhaps, i know there are a few colleges nearby).

Do you have plans for an alternate area if nothing comes thru for you in this immediate area (there is a dearth of hotels in Brooklyn)?

Are you saying that I should not bid for the Brooklyn area? What would be the very next closest to that area? Do you know anything about the Comfort Inn? Would that one be on the bidding possibilities?

I'm not sure why the prices are high but on hotwire there are 181 rates -303 rates for Downtown soho (about 15-20 minutes away average sometimes quicker ussually not too much slower)... Im guessing you might get something cheaper through priceline but with less certainty....

I'm not saying that at all, as it never hurts to try... but i am saying that i think it is going to be a tough win and i would at the very least starting thinking about alternative plans in case you don't have success with priceline.

We'll help with a suggested bidding strategy if you let us know what your maximum bid is. If this is different than your maximum bid to stay elsewhere (like Manhattan), what would your Manhattan maximum bid be?

As far as alternate plans... where exactly in Brooklyn do you need to be? What's the nearest subway stop? Do you think you'll be spending most of your time in Brooklyn in your son's neighborhood or more so traveling to/from Manhattan? Would you consider SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?

I have now looked at their website and don't think it is a place that i would be staying (regardless of the fact my wife won't let me :) ).

They give the appearance that they're at the base of the Williamsburg Bridge but the description says they're at the Brooklyn/Battery Tunnel... if that's the case your mass transit options from that area are going to scarse.

Sikittles, have you considered the area of Long Island City or LaGuardia airport? Both are in Queens, and not exactly close to Brooklyn, but these locations have properties which have been identified. The other area is JFK Airport. The Best Western is perfectly acceptable as is the Doubletree Club JFK. I would never book a one week hotel stay on the basis of a photo on a website. I can list plenty of hotels that have terriffic photographs of their properties on the websites, but you might not want to stay there, these include, but are not limited to:

Holiday Inn Express, Long Island City; Herald Square Hotel, NYC; Ramada Inn, Newark Airport, Sheraton Four Points, Newark Airport; and last but not least, the Holland Motor Lodge, Jersey City. Yes, I must come clean, I did stay here about 5 years ago and can live to tell about it. :)
